Was wondering, is there anything that can be done to make solo and small scale pvp more quick, fun, and viable? And add some "instant gratification" element to it?
Because sometimes I think small group roams and fleet battles are kind of boring. The FC tells the group to do this and do that. When you finally find a target, 10 fleet members gang up and kill one target - to me it just doesn't feel very fun and rewarding. Even the large scale fights.
Could a PvP matchmaking system be implemented - for example 1v1 / 2v2 / 3v3, etc...... kind of like the Alliance Tournaments.
So if someone only has 1 hour to play the game, they know they can just log in, and get some quick PvP action? Right now if I only have 1 hour to play the game, and if I want to do some PvP - I know the only thing I can do is set up a bubble or roam. In the best case scenario I'd probably get a T3 destroyer kill, or a few noob ship kills.
But a PvP Matchmaking system would the people together who just want to get some quick PvP action - and with real consequences, not just fake losses like on SiSi.
Before people start saying "this is not WoW"......it wouldn't be like WoW because the losses are permanent. |

Players already organise their own tournaments, so there is nothing stopping you from doing the same. For example Leto sets up The Thunderdome in C&P.
But I'm guessing you would want your idea to be 1v1 or 2v2 etc, without the chance of interference from others. Sorry but no thanks.

As long as you have to physically move to the location and anyone can interrupt your fight if they want then I dont mind these tournament ideas.
But if you want magic teleportation and magic barriers then no, you have SiSi for non-sandbox and consensual only PvP
EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

Of course, I mean any kind of system that can make PvP more instantly gratifying if you are by yourself, and only have 1 hour to play the game. So you can actually PvP on your own time.
Just as an example, perhaps agents could offer small scale PvP missions. The objective would be for 3 players to defend something in System X. And on the opposite side, the objective would be for 3 players to destroy something in System X. |

But since this is EVE, one of those groups of three would actually be a group of twelve instalocking svipuls, right? |

Well, I'm sure they could think of something to address this issue if they decide to implement it :)
I'm just saying right now if you have an hour of playing time, it's really hard to get some quick PvP action. If you jump into a faction battleship, you'll die as soon as you run into a small gang. If you get into a cloaky, maybe you'll get a destroyer kill after you roam for an hour. It's just not very satisfying.
Otherwise, the only thing you can do with that 1 hour is to update your industry / market orders...
Or.......perhaps you're right, there could be 12 instalocking Svipuls on one side, and another small gang on the other side....I guess that would create a lot of carnage and ship explosions, this can be a good thing for people who are bored. |

No it be WoT....where eventually matchmaker would go I can't find a good match and sling out a crap matchup. Which has its good and bad. The bad is you get the wtf are you serious match ups. The good is these craptastic match ups can be better than staring at a screen for 10 minutes waiting for matches to fire up. Not really a ringing endorsement for good in this case though.
Not even a ding against wargaming.net....no game imo has ever had a good matchmaker. Fantasy MMO side I have more what is this crap moments than I can count in their scenarios or whatever they call instances.
Also how do you determine rules for the matchmaker....that actually get pops. Can't be "levels", I know than less 1 year players who pvp'd early on who could run circles around several years bears.
Fits? So that after players list their personal ban lists for what they don't want to fight MM is going nice....enjoy my please wait screen for hours as they ban say kiters, e-war, drones, etc.
Eve pvp is about facing unknowns...and stuff you won't like sometimes. Want that much control, get sad friends to some P-m and have at it. this was how I sparred as I learned how to play. Friend(s), p-m, try stuff out. |

So you can actually PvP on your own time. If you want that, how about you live where the action is reliably taking place? No new mechanics needed, you just need to undock and get fights/kills/satisfaction/blobs/action. If you chose to live in High sec or deep null sec among many friends, you have no right whatsoever to expect instant PVP if you do not do something for it.
There is no need for anything resembling matchmaking in EVE because we already have all that in place. For instance, your PVP missions are already there in the form of FW missions. If you run them in stabbed FW plex farming ships instead of combat ships, that's your problem and not the fault of the game. Or you can run Low sec incursions or L5 missions (or any mission in Low sec for that matter) with some friends and over time people will become aware of you and try to interfere with you. Use that to your advantage and fight them in your missions.
This topic has also been discussed ad nauseam in a threadnaught not so long ago. You should have done some research before creating yet another redundant thread.

And if you want to have solo fights, drag your as* out of null and go into FW areas. Blap people on both sides!
