Seriously, what is the Nestor good for? No one does exploration in a battleship. They turn slow, they warp slow, they move slow, they lock slow, and they skill up slow. The Nestor has no business having exploration bonuses. You may as well put drone bonuses on a Caracal. So what IS the Nestor good for?
Well, it ain't Mission running. The Nestor doesn't pack enough damage or enough tank. It ain't PvP. The Nestor doesn't pack enough damage or tank, and again, it's a battleship. Too slow. It ain't WHs because there's nothing a Nestor can do that a Gila or Stratios won't do better, and they ain't battleships. It ain't a carrier because it can't jump or carry anything useful. It isn't black ops because it can't jump or cloak. It isn't logistics because... IT'S A BATTLESHIP. Locks too slow. You can't even do Incursions in it because it won't meet the DPS and tank requirements, and the drones are heavy drones which are of course too slow. Faction battleships in EVE are a huge pack of awesome, EXCEPT FOR THE NESTOR, the most expensive one of all.
So what exactly is the purpose of the ship? It's a huge mismatch of bonuses that don't coincide with one another. Seriously, why scanning and exploration bonuses on a battleship hull? Most people scan with alts anyways, so you don't need an all-in-one ship, and the Nestor doesn't even have the powergrid to all in one to begin with. Drones for damage? Why, because it's Gallente? Gallente ships can have armor bonuses too. Give it laser damage and at least you can apply your damage immediately, the strength of gun based platforms. Laser optimal range? Why, when my damage bonus isn't to my guns? I get to stand there chip away at a target from a distance while my drones make the long, slow, hike of shame over there before I can apply any real DPS. How do you even go about fixing a ship when you can't even tell what it's supposed to do in the first place? Ugh. What a mess. |

How so? A logistics cruiser does the job better and locks way faster, because it's not a battleship. They also move and warp faster. A jammed Nestor would spend forever relocking targets in need of support again. That is not "good for remote repping". |

Valacus wrote: A jammed Nestor would spend forever relocking targets in need of support again. Anything properly jammed will take forever or won't be able to lock anything. That being said the sensor strength of a Nestor is 30 while the logistics are ~20.
How much DPS is your logistics cruiser putting out while repping?

What are you on about? It's not uncommon at all for logistics teams to barely catch ships in %25 armor or structure before bringing them back. High alpha and target switching are some of the easiest ways to get around logistics other than jamming. A battleship won't be able to do a logistic cruisers job. Lock time is the difference between repped and popped.

Jams are all RND based now, so the time you have between jam cycles is critical. You can't be wasting that waiting on a slow lock time. And huh? Who cares how much DPS a logi is putting out? That isn't their job. I pack one combat drone to whore the kill mails, but that's it. There's a reason we have logi for logi and DPS for DPS. They both do their jobs well, unlike the Nestor, who does not excel at either role and costs 5x as much. |

Support ship good for small scale ops. Could handle much more dps vs. logi simultaneously providing dps ftom drones and having option to help with refit. |

First if all it has big buffer (12k shield/armor/hull). Second it has armor bonuses 4%/lvl and with 2 EANMs the resists go to 70%+ It can get 1000dps with easy and if you find 4-5 of them spider tanked you wont kill them. |

Or you could just jam them, like you break all logi chains. They aren't particularly fast, so they won't be running away in any hurry. Armor platforms make terrible kiters, yet it still has a range bonus to guns. Other faction battleships go well over the 1k mark in DPS, so that's no accomplishments. |

If you can't figure out what are the bonuses for the ship, you can ask politely and ppl might explain you. If you shout, that the ship is bad, noone will explain you, what are the bonuses of that ship. |

Supers use it as a mobile depot with zero anchoring time.
Some fleets use it for field refitting.
But for general use one of it's designated virtues - extremely low mass, is also it's bane. It means that BS propmods act as oversized for nestor, and once you turn MWD on, you get brick agility. It needs dual nanos to even start approaching the less agile battleships align times, which limits the ship to second-line duty and gimmick tricks. |

I flew in a 5 man Nestor RR fleet on SiSi the other day, and they were quite effective. We used their refitting capabilities to switch one of our fleetmates to neuts for dread / carrier killing.
Not to mention, they're SEXY ships. |

You do realize that these ships are also 'drone boats' right? Which means that - yes, indeed. You can jam them - woopdedoo. They can concentrate drones onto ECM support. |

You know as well as I do that jammed drone ships don't get to choose their targets, and you vastly oversold the Nestor's buffer tank, which is adequate, but far from impressive. |

a nestor isnt better than a logi ship at repping. but it can do a ton of other things a logi ship cant even think about, and it is INSANELY tanky. it also has great utility with its reffiting capabilities and it has a ton of slots meaning you can do almost anything with it. especially in shorter range WH brawls their low mass and high tank makes them a great addition to a fleet.

you should carry spare reps, cap transfers, NOSes and neuts in your cargo. you can carry an entire refit with you and if theres another nestor with you you'll only need the depot for emergencies. with HG slaves and legion boosts, this thing has a monstrous 445k EHP with heated hardeners. that is ******* ridiculous and no logi will get even close to that number. it also deals 500 dps, can point, web, has a MJD, MWD, ECCM, cap booster, neuts and plenty of reps. if you chain up with another nestor your cap will last a long time and you can refit to more cap transfers if necessary.
this is of course also far more expensive than t2 logi, but since the hull alone costs a billion price shouldnt really be an issue |

The nestor is fine.
168k EHP and higher, over 2k DPS local tank, damn near impossible probe down, cap stable while running local rep and remote reps, over 500 dps. What's wrong with it? |

nestor is the most powerfull subcap repper on top of all the things you mentioned. In pure aubcap warfare, its a beast. Its a great flagship for spider domis since you can refit off it. Its role might be nice, but its damn powerfull in that role |

Shame that a ship that's thematically supposed to be about exploration is used as a mobile depot/spider tanker.
The description even dismisses the possibility of it being able to fit a covops cloak, lol
Quote:The Sanctuary corporation poured uncountable resources into making the cloaking technology developed for the Stratios fit the Nestor, but were eventually forced to concede that it was impossible...
