hi CCP gave us hauler spawns.. with 50mil minerals in it and more who do you guys think should haul this stuff with the current industrial ships??? if you just do 5 jumps to haul that stuff it takes hours.
i demand a "small freighter" with 100km3 space that can at least load from POS arrays, so the players have the chance to haul this amount of minerals where they need it. it's easier to haul the minerals from the spawn to a POS 1-2 jumps away and then with the small freighter to the place where it is needed (and don't tell me to build at this POS)
i know there where thoughts about such a ship already, i just want to remember CCP about that.
thx

I've always thought hauling ships needed some other options in terms of carry space.
I agree with a "mini freighter" type ship, with 75,000 - 100,000 m3 space.
Needing more skills than a transport ship, like a freighter having no hardpoints or rigs, selling in the 2-300 mill region. Caldari Gunboat Pilot

i could also think of the possibility to load from wrecks (not from jettison cans tho)

There really needs to be a 'middle range' hauler.
You can fit 3-4 fighters in an Iteron V, or 180 fighters into an Obelisk.
Iteron Vs cost 1 mil, Obelisks cost 1 bil.
Logistics on a daily basis or logistics on a monthly basis.
One option is simply not enough, and the other is complete overkill.
I simply don't understand the logic of not having a middle option. A transport ship with 100k m3 of cargo space at a around 150 to 250 mil price range is BADLY needed.
Freighters would still be needed. When you consider the fact that there are freighter ops that run with 5 to 10 fully loaded freighters in them, it outright proves the that there is a need for freighters even if there was a midsized option available.
All the current system does is simply place mid-sized corps out of being able to participate in transportation in any meaningful way.

thips idea will sooo have some pwnzor hardcore player tell the OP to "get a freighter or STFU" like in all the previous threads on this topic ;)
now seriously, I totally agree - restrict them from being able to loot from cans if it's about preventing macro miners from using larger ships than their Iteron Mk.5s, but allow them to be loaded from wrecks and POS hangar arrays, but please for the love of god give us a mid sized transport ship. Even with a cargo rigged Impel with 36k (or 47k for small items in secure cans), that's a huge difference to even the smallest freighter, and honestly while dedicated mid sized corps are able to afford a freighter in the long run, it still remains overkill and does not help with moving supplies to/from a POS

Actually this has been suggested more than a few times in the "Ideas" forum. No word yet from CCP if they like / hate the idea.
Personally I think its a great idea. Some sort of bigger hauler would be great.

Deep Space Transport (ORE Carrier)
Freighter Style Cargo Bay 80k m3 which also get s a 5% bonus per lvl this bay would be seperate from the normal cargo so can't be expanded, but also can't be acessed in space unless your at another Hanger Array at a POS or a Carrier
Cargo 5K m3 (Fuel Mainly)
Jump Range of a normal Carrier
Slots Layout:
2H 2M 4L
150 m3 Drone Bay
had enough grid to fit a Cap Modules but the slot layout means not much of a tank, basically enough to take some damage if the cyno gets intercepted but goes down quick if its any significant force.
Bonus: 5% Cargo Array Cap Per Level 5% Less Cap Need for Jump Per Level
Costs 1.3-1.5B
This amount of capcity can be done with an archon already so its nothing new but doesn't require using every trick for more cargo to get it. it just has it

Iteron 5 Max Skill Cargo Expander IIs Cargo Rigs I Giant Secure Containers
6,000 m3 * 1.25 = 7,500 7,500 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 25,270 25,270 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.15 = 38,432 m3 38,432m means you can put 12 GSCs inside at 3k each. That leaves 2,432 m3 unused. It also means you get 12*3,900m3 total space. 12*3900=46,800m3 + 2,432 = 49,232m3
49,232m3 Total space in your Iteron 5. ------------------------------------------- Lets look at an I5 with the same but using T2 Carghold Optimization IIs(Invention required).
25,270 * 1.2 * 1.2 * 1.2 = 43,666 m3 43,666 means you can put 14 GSCs inside at 3k each. That leaves 1,666 m3. It also means you get 14*3900 = 54,600 + 1,666m3 = 56,266 m3
So, 49,232 to 56,266 m3 of space is what you can come up with using an Iteron 5. That's less than 10 trips to pick up your 50M units of mineral hauler spawn.

Your point, ishiko? We all know that can be done and we all know the impel carries even more.
The point of the OP is that even 50k is not enough to fill the gap between the 10 - 20k transport ships and the 800 - 900k freighters.

Exactly! There should be some happy middle ground here. The biggest transport ships are still only like 10% of the smallest freighters. I would love to have something in the 100K m3 - 150K m3 range.

Something between Carriers and Freighters pretty please. At the moment Carries are extensively used as haulers with "couple haulers in shipbay trick", would be nice to have one ship specially designed for this role.
Additionally capital mining platform with onboard refining feature would be nice.
Both ships ofcourse could not use jumpgates and would rely cynofields so purely lowsec/0.0 toys

Edited by: Lithalnas on 01/01/2007 22:01:29 How about slaving huallers together, have some sort of high slot that allows for a hualler to be slaved to the next, require a skill that for each level an additional hualler can be added to the train with a max of 5.

I agree, there needs to be some sort of intermediary, there are too many MKV pilots sweating under the strain/too many half-empty freighters.

yes i would love that
indys are to low on cargo hold, freighters are overkill and secure container trick dont work if you want to move some packed ships or other high volume cargo
~150k m3 would be ideal, with beter speed, agility than freighter and much lower cost, especially if those would be able to fuel up pos'es
there is big demand on such ships... someone should invent those;) 30-50k or 900k m3 very big gap

Yes such a ship class is needed and would be ideal for empire traders and medium corp operations.. but.. dont give them the ability to dock at a Pos. Fuel transportation is a very important factor in pos warfare and system control. You destroy the balance if you make it to easy.

if you make it able to load/unload at a corp hangar array at a POS you still have to bring the ship through enemie lines. you can do an emergency supply run with an common industrial faster and with less risk than with a medium sized freighter.

The Carrier can actuarly hold 100.000 m3 if fittet correktly!!! The MS can hold 700.000 m3 if fittet correktly. if you'r corp has a few carriers, the hauling is pretty easy and fast Always have a few prefittet impels with expanders and rigs laying around for this.
The minerals in 0.0 is worth a fortune, becos it's free. and very fast to haul.

While 3 T2 optimizers would be great, the Itty 5 only has the calibration for 2 T2 and one T1 from what I understand. Even still, it outshines the impel by a bit in cargo capacity.
Regardless, the demand for a "compact freighter" is there, and please dev gods of all things good, give it a jump drive so our carriers can go get blown up in battle, where they belong .

Bring back the Visitant... With 8 Low Slots, 3 rig points and maybe standard 25.000 m¦ cargo. Only available from your next Jovian Agent for a good bunch of LP... That would solve the problem - and gives us back one of the best-looking ships EVE ever had.

I vote that we instead give a 2-3x multiplier on the base cargo capacity of deep space transports and a 1.25-1.5x multiplier on blockade runners.
It's so sad to see the Itty V being a better hauler than its T2 compatriots... Yeah, I know they're harder to pop, but still...

I think carriers should just have their cargo holds increased to ya know, something you might expect from a ship called A CARRIER. As of now, a badger mark II has more cargo space (excluding drone and corp bay), and more cpu than the chimera, that does not sit well with me. I think carriers should not receive bonuses from cargo expanders, but they should be endowed with at least 50k cargo space right off the bat.
