I currently have a Dell 24" monitor that's about 8 years old. I have a GTX 780. Want to upgrade my monitor and definitely go bigger. I have been checking out Asus but I'm undecided. Should I go 2K? 4K? Never paid Eve on anything other than my current monitor. Thanks! |

stay at 1k at this moment there is no need to get 2k or 4k unless you have to many money in your pocket. |

ASUS is good. Make sure you check out the luminosity cd/m2 so it isn't too dark, because sometimes large monitors aren't that bright. Above 250cd/m2 or even 300 is good, iMacs run above 300.
I've just had a monitor replacement for a couple days, this http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-29UM65-P and no complaints so far.

Beware of 4K monitors intended for TV and movies, not gaming.
Many have a HUGE latency (it takes a while to process all the pixels), or only do 4K at 30 Hz. It also must have a connection(s) compatible with the video card: HDMI 2.0, or DisplayPort 1.2 is a better way to go. Some use a dual-link, splitting the display in half.
Also 4K is pretty pointless on small monitors. I wouldn't get one below 45 inches @ 16:9 (40 in. x 22.5 in.) or about the same as four 24 inch monitors. Keep in mind some text is unreadable on small monitors. |

I use a 27" IPS panel at 1440p fixed window for EVE with 90% UI scaling. Pixel density and screen space is just about right for me in EVE, although I'm seriously tempted by 34" ultrawide monitors atm. |

ASUS is a very reputable brand. I have a Dell 30" that's been very good. I really like the 2560 x 1600 resolution over the smaller vertical resolution monitors as it give more room for vertical stacking of windows.
Your graphics card doesn't support it, but the Nvidia adaptive Vsync technology gets a lot of good reviews so you might want to buy a monitor that supports it for future-proof.

I use a few screens, but the best performance:cost ratio i've recently purchased has to be the Dell u2515h.
I've played Eve on 4k and I don't recommend it. It offered very little over 1440p, apart from killing the frame rate. |

Well
I have:
Dell U3014 30 Inch Dell U3011 30 Inch Dell WFP3007 30 Inch Dell U2713H Dell FP2405 from several years ago. Before they cheaped their 24 Inch to krap. Brand new in Box used 2 months. Asus 27 Inch. Dell FP2005 20 Inch.
I have no 4K monitors yet, waiting.
But the Dell U3014 is impeccable as is the U3011 but the U3014 is the newest and what is available now... |

Assuming that is the 2405FPW, you MUST look at replacing the capacitor in it ASAP. They're dying now at a crazy rate and taking the entire PSU board with them. I just repaired mine (multiple caps, voltage regulators, 2 IC chips, resistors) as I didn't know about the issue and mine blew. Took loads out :(. Cost me ~$40 as a result, and that was just for the parts - I can solder so did that myself. Some of them were difficult to find too.
If you replace just the capacitor, it'll cost you next to nothing.
See this thread for details, it's the same for the 2407/2405 screens: http://badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14882
It's a great screen and totally worth doing the preemptive maintenance on to save it. |

Yes, 2405FPW... that's it...
But as I say, it had only 2 months of use, probably less. So if the part goes bad anyway while sitting in a box... If not, I should be OK if I ever pull it out again... |

27" is getting to be the sweet spot pricewise.
4K is probably unnecessary at 27" but it may be worth going up to a 2550 res 27" instead of 1920.
IPS used to be the tech of choice as IPS monitors were usually the top of the line offerings and overall better, but these days its not so clear so do not assume just because the spec says IPS its automatically a good unit.

Alright I am nearing a final decision on the monitor upgrade. Had a few more questions. My prime path right now is to get a Dell U3014 30". I am also considering getting a GTX 980 Ti. Video card overkill for Eve? Probably. But I will be running 4 clients at once with all the video settings to the max so I am thinking I will need to beef up from my current GTX 770. My 770 with 1K monitor can handle 3 clients all at max settings and I get around 50 fps. When I goto 4 clients on max, it slows to about 30-35 fps.
I have never used 2K before or even see anything in 2K. Does it make a big difference for playing Eve? Are there any short comings vs 1K? |

EVE has really small fonts.
Also, icons and fonts get blurry if you aren't running the monitor's default resolution.
So if you don't have excellent vision, it doesn't make much sense to buy a bigger screen (28, 30 inches would make everything appear bigger), only to make all the writing extremely tiny by going to 2k or 4k resolution.
IMO, 2k and 4k resolutions are for 40, 60 inch TV's. All the menus and text will look minuscule on a 30 inch at 4k, probably even at 2k. |

This article has a graph showing where the benefit of a resolution should be visible depending on view distance and screen size. http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/a-theory-why-the-new-apple-tv-will-ship-without-4k-uhd
1080 on a 23" screen just doesn't look good to me anymore. I'll probably never buy a 1080 monitor again. freaking phones have 1080. Although at the same time 4k might be a bit overkill. 1440 sounds interesting. by the time I get around to buying something I might even be able to afford a dank video card and 4k might be cheap.
what I'd love would be a big ass monitor in 4k and then have my 3 accounts, and a browser window at 1080 in the 4 quadrants of the monitor

I've had a Dell 3014 for over a year and it's been a great monitor. I've also had a GTX titan since they first came out and it's been flawless for multi-boxing. I don't think you can have overkill on a video card for a 30" monitor. |

Honestly 4K support is pretty iffy in a lot of games and 2K is about all you can really handle with a single GPU anyway. SLI/Crossfire is another story obviously. Make sure you get something with G-Synch or FreeSynch depending on if you have Nvidia or AMD, respectively. You also want a low response time, and if you have a good PC preferably a refresh rate above 60. I've been wanting to get this one. |

My last concern really has to do with the extra video card bandwidth I'll need going to 2K, thus why I am upgrading from my current 7 series to a 980 Ti. With the U3014 and the 980 Ti, do you think think I will have any issues with maintaining 60 FPS with all the video settings at max and running 4 clients at the same time? I know Eve isn't anywhere near as video card dependent as games like Battlefield, but this is really my last concern before pulling the trigger. I can do 4 clients, max video settings in 1K and get about 30-35 fps with my current setup. |
