Just in case none of the ten-billion things on each programmer's plate is really urgent, here's some suggestions for UI changes that would make EVE less frustrating and more fun, without making it easier.
- A "light" or other indicator that clearly indicates when you are warp-scrambled. A change in color of the velocity indicator might work too (to red for example). I've been told there's both a visual effect and an audible sound for warp scrambling, but I've never been able to see it or hear it; especially when under fire by half-a-dozen missile tossers and webbed besides.
- It would be nice if the overview could show who was scrambling also. That would be a more involved change, adding more filters I imagine, so you could show a different background color for scrambling, webbing, or various other offensive actions. Warp scrambling is the really important one though, and worthy of it's own indicator even if no others are shown. I know there's a message that appears in the combat log, but in a typical battle it will scroll by too fast to be read. That goes double for the pop-up messages for hits and misses. I've never seen the message that tells me I'm scrambled. I only find out when I try to warp and fail.
- Allow the Overview pane to be opaque both visually and to mouse-clicks. Making it a "regular" window that is sizable and matches the overall UI skin would be nice too. It can be very frustrating to try to select something in the overview and get a random asteroid, ship, structure, etc. instead. The flashing brackets for locks and even the flashing background for hostile players can be hard to see if the screen is very "busy" behind the overview.
- Similar to the overview pane, I think the locked targets icons at the top of the screen should be opaque to mouse clicks. It can be very annoying, even deadly, to click on one of those icons and select an asteroid or something behind them instead.
- For the drone UI, it would be nice if they told you when someone was targeting them (if not who). I'd suggest that the drone background flashes yellow if someone is locking on them, flashes red if they're being fired on. It's very frustrating to lose drones because you didn't know they were being fired on until one of them started taking damage.
- A separate drone window, instead of a spot on the overview would also be nice. Same goes for the gang UI, make it a separate window. Both could be docked on the overview or dragged elsewhere.
