I've heard that some people use Small T2 blasters on a Thorax instead of medium blasters as you can fit a 1600 plate.
What experience have people had with these two approaches in PvP?
and which do you think would be better?

Personally, on a Thorax I use T2 Smalls and a 1600mm Armor Plate. I've never tried using mediums on a 'rax. Try both and see which one you prefer.

t2 light neutrons will outdamage t1 mediums, so if your skilling up still it's a great way to fit it. Plus the amount of armor hp you get from plates is ace. ------

I prefer the T2 smalls or a mix of the smalls and heavies.

Edited by: Passcal on 02/01/2007 22:45:18 I've tried this set up with alot of success.
5x Named Heavy Electrons
1x 10mn MWD 1x Web 1x 20km scrambler
1x Medium Armor Repairer 1x 800mm Rolled Tungsten Plate 1x Damage Control 1x Energized Adaptive Nano 1x Capacitor Power Relay
5x Random mix of med drones
I have never used the T2 small blaster set up. So i was wondering if the light neutron blaster II's did more damage.

Edited by: Michayel Lyon on 02/01/2007 22:49:10 It is possible to fit 5x t2 Heavy Electrons and a 1600mm plate if you are willing to fly without a repper. Works excellent in low-sec 1v1 (and even 1v2 if you're skilled, lucky, or both) engagements against BCs and below, where you can dock after each fight and put on a repper. As long as the fight lasts less than 85 seconds (with my skills), a 1600mm plate will give a better tank than an 800mm plate + medium repper tank. And I can't remember a lot of fights where I took damage for 85 seconds.
Linkage if you want to see it in action.
I wouldn't recommend this setup in 0.0 though.

Edited by: Madorthene on 02/01/2007 22:46:42 Wrong forum. Anyway, t2 medium electrons, 1600 tungsten plate and a t2 small rep with MWD/whatever is the best way to go, imo.

Better to put on a EANM (20 % more resists) or mag stab (20 % extra damage), imho.
(If you have access to refitting or remote repping, that is; i.e. mostly low-sec.)

Edited by: CharlieMurphy on 03/01/2007 02:12:51 how can you justify fitting a ship like a thorax with a t2 set up tho i was fitting a rax the other day and watching the value of the fittings get higher and higher and in the end just went with t1 hvy electrons becuase its a thow away ship and yeah it probably is going to get blown up sooner or later

Uh... It was a while since I used it, but I think it was something along the lines of:
Highs: 4x Light Neutron Blaster II w/ void, medium nos Mids: scram, mwd, web Lows: Explosive Hardener II, 1600mm RT, EANM II/mag stab II (can't really remember), RCU (ugly bastard child of mods) Drones: 2x Berserker II, 2x Valkyrie II, 1x Warrior II Cargo: Medium Armor Repper I (there was a lot of docking, fitting repper, undocking, repair not showed in the vid )

Because the thrill of the fight is directly related to the total value of the ship? And 200m for a HAC is a little too much excitement for me. Plus, I had a kill/loss ratio of 12:1 during my short career as a low sec solo griefer, mostly against cruisers and battlecruisers.
But I do understand where you are coming from, though... I was fitting out a Hyperion today, mostly t2 gear... It wasn't fun to look at my wallet afterwards.

Wrong forum, but 1600mm plate with med electrons is doable with a single RCU as Benglada posted. You might need a smaller armour repairer though.
And for the love of giant flying phallic ships, everyone that has no DCU in their setup, drop that EANM and fit a damage control. There's nothing better than those 50% hull resists on a Gallente ship.
