So I've seen a million and one posts about how to passive shield tank, and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with armor tanking using only passive mods with the obvious exception of the repper, so it's not truely "passive" except in the sense that it's resists are not cap dependent.
Has anyone had any experience/success with using a passive tanked Domi for lvl 4 agent missions, or any Gallente ship for pvp? I'm just trying to figure out how much of a priority those passive resist skills ought to be for me. THanks for any info.

Most PvP tanks are "passive except the repper". That being EAMNs.

The repper is what makes it active. As said above, about 70% of tanks I run across use EANMs.
A passive armor tank would be plates and resists, and they're often used with bait or gank ships to survive just long enough to kill the target.

Most cruiser size and below ships, if they are armour tanking, will use passive tanks as they don't require any cap bar the repper.
On BS's it's less common as for the most part a BS can support a fully active tank. I helped - Cortes What a shiny and lovely place here - Eshtir Well lets make it a party atleast :D -Xorus RAWWWR!11!!1!2 SIG HIJACK!!11!1 I found it first, get orrrfff moiiii laaannnd - Cortes |

Thanks a lot for the answers guys. I'm still kind of a noob when it comes to tanking properly for pvp. Definitely will train those up for my ishkur if they're that prevalent.

the damage specific t2 energised modules with max compensation skills give resits a fraction off a t1 hardener. the t2 energised adaptives with max skills give about 25% to each dmg type (i left EM at lvl4 for 24%), stack 3 of them up and you have close to t1 hardener resists. after you have loaded up with the t2 adaptives a top of the line damage control mod (not zero but very low cap usage, oh and t2 are out now) tops off your resists better than another t2 adaptive, because it isnt factored into the stacking penalty (last time i checked!)
so if your comparing t1 hardeners to the t2 energised's with the compensation skills then you get almost identical resists with a free boost to ure em resistance (over the standard 3 hards excluding EM).
as a result most of my ships use the t2 energised mods these days, with the exception of a fully t2 tanked apoc, those t2 hards are after all better when you have to have the best possible tank, but my other ships dont loose their resists when nossed Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

actually the ishkur/enyo are ships that benefit from a hardener (explosive) as they only have one resistence hole on their armor... however, you can still top that off with an EANM2 for great effect... I'd train the compensations to a 3 minimum (4-5 when you have time) as it's quite worth it
