Well... I never thought it would happen (I have never shared my password nor do I use 3rd party tools)but it has, my account was hacked. I came in this morning and my ships were gone, my items were sold and an ISK transfer was made to another player.
So far I have done the following:
1) Ran a full virus scan on my machine using Avast. 2) Changed my account password (after the virus scan). 3) Filed a petition.
Is there anything else that could/should be done? Any advice would be extremely welcome. Thanks...

- Check your firewall?? - Change your password, regulary?? - Possibly you have signed up to a website EVE related with the same Login & Same password you use for EVE?
They hacked your account, but didnt change the password :S or your information??
I suppose all you can do now, is wait for a reply in the petition

Reinstal your machine then change your PW. chances are if they found it out once, they can do it again, ala a hidden keylogger. CCP will probably say tough luck or similar so a reimbursement wouldent do anything I think. Also, be glad they didnt transfer your charecter.

There's been reports of keylogger tools, so I'd check carefully for that, and if you have a firewall or anything else that logs IPs, I'd check for any irregularities and if you do find such, include it in your petition.

IMHO that's the most common security flaw out there. I know many people that use the same password for their game accounts, game-sites, email, etc. No idea if that was the case for the OP but is good to raise awareness about this.
1) Passwords should be unique. Per site, not per user. 2) Don't ever make a txt file on your computer with your passwords info. Do it in paper if you must.

Do you not think its possible that the GMs saw a number of petitions for accounts being hacked, so they then posted the message?
So naturally you would see a connection...the warning comes out because people are getting hacked...and people are also posting threads for the same reason.

Unfortunatley for us - the account that was hacked was used to empty our 3 POS's of fuel (3 months in each) destroy all the hangars complete with everyones ships in, offline the towers, steal all our BPO's and minerals from the offices in empire and pretty much wipe our corp out.
This isnt sabotage, its a violation of the EULA and has scrapped THOUSANDS of hours of hard work.
Estimated losses in the region of 18 billion.
Quote: HELLO JACKASS MEMBERS OF JEWEL LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE STORY. I WAS MINDING MY OWN, TESTING ACCOUNT NAMES, AND FOUND THAT THIS ACCOUNT WAS USED, MUCH TO MY PLEASURE, AS I FELT LIKE USING A PROGRAM I HAVE THAT BRUTE FORCES A WAY INTO SOMEONES ACCOUNT USING PASSWORD AFTER PASSWORD UNTILL IT GETS IN. WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WHY I TOOK EVERYTHING THIS GUY HAS ACCESS TO IN THE CORP HANGERS, LISTED IN THE CORP MENUE, AND WHATS THIS? THERE ARE 3 POS BOOKMARKS! HUMM, PERHAPS I SHOULD CHECK THOSE OUT.. OH NICE SHIPS AND GEAR OUT HERE, SO I TOOK THEM, BLEW UP THE HANGERS AT ALL THREE LOCATIONS, AND OFFLINED THE TOWERS. AFTER I TOOK ALL THE FUEL OUT. ALL THATS LEFT? With regards to choosing secure passwords, use a 16 character long string of random upper and lower case letters and numbers.

The script kiddie in me get respects the concept of brute-forcing an account and trashing POSes.
pwnage
On passwords, the great thing about random alphanumeric strings is that you can make a change that from your perspective yields a very similar password, but from the perspective of an attacker using brute force is very different.
yh$n68Fd -> Yhsn6*fD
Both are pretty much the same password, just with the shift key pressed at different times. Easy to remember, hard to break. ----------
