i'm a new player, and i'm sure this question has been asked a lot already. i was wondering if anyone might have any insight into why the developers have not put in a system where you can proxy skills being learned. it's a real pain when i can only log in briefly in the mornings, and only occasionally at night to have a skill that has more than a day, but less than two days left to learn - either i have to swith to something else, or i lose out on half a day (or more) learning.
also, it could reduce the load on the severs, since those people who are logging in just to swap skills around would not have to do so as frequently.

Just plan your skills better. Train the days long skills while you'll be off line, and the shorter skills when you'll be online or available to swap skills when a short one finished.
Skill queuing of some sort has been talked about, but nothing concrete yet, nor do we really need to use it. Everyone has some week+ long skill they can train while not around a PC. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | How to Build from a BPO |

The devs have mulled over this from what I see. The primary argument against, which I do agree with for the most part, is that they do want people to log in. If one could just queue up multiple skills, one wouldn't need to log in for possibly weeks at a time.

They way I do it...
Work on the short ones while you are playing, and then switch to the long ones while you are offline. Try to time it so that the long ones will end when you are going to be online. -=^=-

Skill training and the management of it, is sort of a mini-game in EVE. For my schedule, I love 12hr, 24hr, and anything less than 3hrs skills. I hate the 18-22hr skills. I call the ones that don't divide out into 12/24hrs - "odd" skills.
So what happens is on any given night of playing(which lasts about 2-4hrs) I switch to the odd skills that don't even out to the intervals that I want, and train them for a few hours. when I'm ready to go to finish up my play session, I switch back to a longer skill. Over the course of 1-3 nights of doing this, I can usually adjust the odd skills to be inline with the hrs that I want. Then I just focus on those, and finish them off during one of my play sessions.
Learn to swap around your skills to steer them to finish during your play sessions. OFC I wouldn't mind at all if they implemented skill queues. But the current situation is far from "painful".

Skill Training - Queue or Dual training is at the top of the list of features on the Drawingboard. As it is still on the Drawingboard, it is not yet In Development or In Testing.

Yeah, originally they said that they didn't put it in because they wanted people to "play the game", but recently they said they're thinking about adding in something that would let us schedule skills in some limited way. Dunno when that'll be.

I hope they just let you queue up one skill as a backup... that will allow people to not have to wake up at 4am to trade out a skill.
That, or the skill will just automatically train its next level. If you finish level 4, it will just keep on training level 5... -----------------------------------------------

I'm a new player too. I just found the EveMon tool. If you haven't installed that, you should - it will at least help you optimize your training plan. It is an awesome tool!
