So, I go out to kill everything in "Silence The Informant", and not a single one of the wrecks that are generated can be worked with.
I can target them or select them, but no form of right clicking, or using the interaction panel above the overview...or anything else, will let me do anything with them. I can fly up to one manually, and double click it in space, and a little window will pop open, but even for filled-triangle wrecks, this little window is empty.
Any ideas?

Have the exact same problem with my alt, but this account is fine. Unfortunately atm my loot collector/salvager is left sitting out in the cold.

Well, I fixed it. Went into the cache directory and expunged it of all life (except the prefs.ini file, but I lost all my settings anyway). What a pain.

Edited by: Mondo Banana on 06/01/2007 05:09:43 Clearing the cache did not fix it for me. When i click on a wreck the overview ship controls do not activate. If I approach the wreck manually and open it no loot shows, even though it has the right icon.
What a pain in the ass.
CCP can you not fix one fricking thing without breaking something else?

I got it fixed last night... whatever is causing the problem is in the cache/settings folder, so you do have to lose your settings to fix it.

I am having the same problem. Ive killed over 20 NPCs and havent gotten any loot. I can not right click on the wrecks in space nor in the overview.
I will try to delete as you say. Hate the thought of loosing all my settings.

CCP, you have a very big problem here. The settings file which is having problems is the same one which holds the settings for bookmark folders. Granted, it would have been worse before WTZ, but still, I don't appreciate having to sort through hundreds of bookmarks.
I had the same problem happen to my main today, after a big lag spike. Very annoying.

Originally by: Gaius Sejanus Well, I fixed it. Went into the cache directory and expunged it of all life (except the prefs.ini file, but I lost all my settings anyway). What a pain.
After some testing, it appears that the file that causes this bug is "char_XXXXXXXXX.dat" in the "\CCP\EVE\cache\Settings" folder. (XXXXXXXXX is a 9-digit number specific to my character.)
First, I renamed (deleted) the entire "cache" folder. Problem solved--but it killed all my settings like keyboard shortcuts.
So I methodically restored one file at a time in the \Settings folder until I duplicated the bug. The only file I was not able to restore was, of course, the file "char_XXXXXXXXX.dat"; hence, my conclusion.
I was able to restore the files "char__.dat", "pc.dat ", "user__.dat", and "user_XXXXXXX.dat" (where XXXXXXX is a 7-digit number specific to my character). In the end, I kept my many keyboard shortcuts. However, some other settings were lost like audio settings, window positions, etc.
So just delete "char_XXXXXXXXX.dat" in the folder "\CCP\EVE\cache\Settings" (where XXXXXXXXX is a 9-digit number specific to your character).
(If you have more than one character on your PC, you can find your 9-digit number by clicking the "My Account" link on the left side under the "EVE INSIDER" section. Then login again, if you must, and click your characters portrait. You should now see your character's stats. Look at the URL in your Address bar. It will look like this:
http://myeve.eve-online.com/character/skilltree.asp?characterID=XXXXXXXXX
The last 9 digits are your personal character's number.)

Hi
I had the same issue. Resolved by deleting the setting folder.
To prevent such annoying work like reconfiguration all ingame settings just make backup from settings folder as often as possible.

I try to keep regular backups of the useful bits of my cache folder. It's annoying, but useful. I got whilst fiddling with the graphics settings on my PC, I run 2 clients on 2 monitors.
Either way, this is an annoying bug. Along with the mail bug, it's something I'd like patched.

Thanks, that fixed it. I had the same problem and a few more people in my corp. Killed my Bookmark folders though, but at least most of the other settings are still the same, I think. ______________ *need new sig* |

So here's a new twist on this problem: I bounce back and forth between 2 computers. Is it possible to wipe one .dat file, change all the settings back to their original configuation ( ), and then copy the new .dat file to the second computer? This would help greatly since I have multiple characters on both. Thanks!
