I was considering roll as stealth bomber, training time is pretty long, but it seems "cheap" enough (as far is being cheaper than some other rolls) and could be useful. Anyone play this roll much enjoy it?
How is the ideal setup for something like this, in a fighting situation?
Any suggestions on topic welcome, please no "dude that will suck" responses :D

The stealth bomber has its uses but to be truely effective with them you will need to go out in packs with other people. The problem with stealth bombers is that their role as a "pseudo-stealth" combat ship is replaced by the much more powerful and useful recon cruiser.
You will need to train for the Caldari stealth bomber, the Manticore, since it has three launchers instead of two like with the other races. ___________________

Edited by: ReePeR McAllem on 06/01/2007 22:49:23 Stealth Bombers rule man! they're so much fun, uncloak at 30km from a ship lob a bunch of cruise missiles. Boom! really cool. They make excellent scouts scouts that can put the smackdown!
I'm going to start training for them after I finish my carrier skillz oh wait 8m in gunnery 120k in missiles D'OH!
Buy yeah if you got decent missile skills go for it man
Edit: If you can get together with 5 or 6 other stealth bombers you have a very deadly killing squad.

Stealth Bombers are pure defensive tools.
They are unable to warp while cloaked unlike true Covert Ops ships and cannot mount the best cloaking devices, but got a nice hidden bonus: The explosion radius of their Cruise Missiles is Frigate sized.
Some selected uses:
In Empire space - Miner defense against ore thieves. Let the bomber pilot create the jet can and let him wait cloaked until the thief flags himself. Also effective for Privateer Alliance in their struggle for Jita, but i really did not mention it, did i?
In Alliance space - Frigate scout removal, decloaking bad guys due to high speed while cloaked itself, one-volley POS or station defense. Bubble backup for small squads.
As for fitting, it's most important to know that it is impossible to cloak while being locked. Sensor dampeners and good range to enemies are a clue. Remaining undetected while uncloaked is a good bet as well: Passive Targeters.
For the bold ones out there: Short range setup including guns makes every Bomber out there valid - even without that worshipped third launcher. Just don't ever tank this ship. If you think you have to, you lost already. Pick an AF instead...
Conclusion: Only for patient killers, only in very few controlled engagements.
Have fun with it!

Do stealth bombers suffer from the targeting delay after decloaking? It seems to me like that delay would rob a stealth bomber of its primary advantage - the sneaky first strike.

One of the devs said that stealth bombers shouldn't suffer from the targetting delay when uncloaking. ___________________

Thanks for the info all, Im just thinking it might not be worth it for me to train for them, even though they seem pretty fun. I got like 700k SP in gunnery and only 150k in missles atm. hehe
Maybe assult ship would be more my thing.

"oh yeah, they are so awsome but Ive never actually used them!"
apparently the only people who think stealth bombers are not useless are the people who cant even fly them

I'm training for them. I 've been playing "stealthers" in every online game i tried. Infiltrators in DAOC, Rogues in WoW, snipers in online FPS's. It's just my style. I don't run and gun. I stalk and assassinate:)

I fly my hound all the time in pvp gangs its great for taking out enemey tacklers to let our ships fly out rep and fly back in.
Now the ship is abit cimpped i dont even bother with a tank just fit 3 bcu's (mini ship is the only one that can do that) and a tracking disruptor, workes great i can two shot any indy.
Best of all at 3 to 4 mil its a super cheap tec2 ship, i have only ever fittted a cloackign device to it once, and then i rilised what was the point, i took it off and saved my self risking a 60 mil modual ona 4 mil isk ship. ----------------------------------------------

The Manticore is a fun ship. Never put in a Cloaking device so far - so not really using it as a *stealth* bomber.
I did pvp, rat hunting (incl. 0.0 - 800k BS in Syndicate) and mission with it.
It has great damage output vs all ship sizes and is decently speedy and agile (unlike a Ferox for example). Defenses are non-existent - but no worries - with a Sensor Booster I can kill targets from 120 km. And if gets destroyed I can get a new one for less than 15 m.
My BS and BC collect dust in the hangar.

The usual forum groans tend to edge in the direction of "they're alright, but they don't do anything that something else doesn't do far better". Never tried one myself, but that makes sense. I can't honestly think of a job for one that there isn't a better ship for, and usually cheaper too. -----------------------------------------------

i love my purifier. its an excellent support ship, really gives tacklers something to think about, fit it with some damps, a sensor boost and pop inty's and frigs from 100+km during a fleet fight ( i can't do that yet but someday i'll make my missle skills uber). any of them should be able to insta pop an interceptor with tech2 ammo. plus they add more firepower to small gangs.
the downsides are: no tank (my bombers almost always come out of a fight flaming :)), the cloak slows your targeting speed so you shouldn't fit it all the time, they have no cap so they are always falling behind with long jumps. oh and they're slow.
but they also have the stealth advantage that everyone disregards them as a threat and so you're never primary!
