Today, I managed to get caught in a gate camp with a mobile warp scrambler, and podded. That was my own frigin' fault, I wasn't being carefull enough.
What got to me though, is I tryed to surrender, and offored to pay a reasonable ransom. My offor was essencialy laughed at (they wanted 100 million isk ransom for a stabber fitted with small artilery), and I was quickly podded.
My immediate train of thought was "What place does such wanton slaughter have in EVE?" and "Why would a gate camp turn down an honest offor to pay a ransom?" I was ****ed for a while, but then thought that perhaps they do have a place in EVE. Without such "wanton slaughter" there would be fewer people who need to buy new ships, and for those who like to compair EVE to real life, muder happens, and not always with motive.
Well, thats my 0.02 ISK on this subject, anyone with constructive feedback?

Sorry for your loss Pyro. I too was caught in a similar situation last weekend (empty hauler heading through lowsec with 0 fitting). Yes it was completely my fault for getting caught however I'm a little ticked I wasn't even ransomed. I was prepared to pay a decent sum and there was absolutly no delay from them popping my hauler and locking/popping my pod. Why do people do this?!?! You have absolutly NOTHING, zero, zilch, nada to gain from popping a pod in lowsec (.4 system mind you) without a ransom. In fact, in this situation you simply lose more sec status which, to some is a badge of honour, but 2 of the 3 pirates in my gate camp were -10.0 sec status anyway (one was -9.5).
My question is..why not at least attempt to go for the money? How does it make sense not to try for it? I know that there are many logoffskis in this game but hey...a pod kill gains a pirate nothing.

Well, when I used to pirate, I also asked for about that price as a pod ransom. The reason being, you might have some expensive implants. If you don't, you won't pay what I ask and then I'll pop ya for fun. If ya do and try to get away with paying less, I won't take it - 100mil or nothing - so I either get 100mil or a pod kill. Happy either way. That was my rationing at the time.

this was a 0.0 camp, alot of times a alliance will camp the gates, if it was a alliance gate camp most dont do ransoms.
if this wasnt a alliance camping then they assumed you had a pirate set and would pay heavily.
or you could have had 300 estamals* invuln in your cargo.
never know what was in the cargo till you die
cargo inspedtion goes for second poster also. and if they didnt see a can got ****ed you didnt have 500 seleenas heatsinks.

you didnt have 500 officer heatsinks in your cargo, poddin is becuase you refused to pay a ransom, dishonored a ransom, are at war, or camping. if you gate camp you are trying to make isk and get blinky red.

Okay so you are saying there is no logic to it...that's what I figured. So, simply put the pirates who do it are A) Illogical/Ignorant or B) Bored/Too rich to care. 
Either way...seems like you are no longer a pirate at that point (since bounty/booty are of no consequence) and your mere existance in game is to grief...which I can respect but hey call it what it is...but it aint piracy.

It occured to me, that this isn't the first time this has happened to me. (memory = swiss cheese)
My Hoarder got popped and podded by another bubble camp about a month or so ago. Not only did they pod me with no ransom demand, but they also destroyed the 2 rifters I was carying in my cargo hold! No attempt to steal them, nothing. just lock and pop on what would have been some semi-decent swag to bring home.
Perhaps our pirates have been loosin IQ points.

well if i pod someone, and i get them ****ed enough they might put a huge bounty on my head, and that makes for a huge e peen.
i dont agree with this but you can have a alt pod you to get the bounty

Wow, 100 mil or death! seems a bit extreeme to me.
In my case, I was trying to move some stuff from 0.0 back to empire (a handfull of small artilery/AC's and some minor shield tanking gear). I would have paid a reasonable ransom, in order to leave alive and with at least half of my cargo. What I got was an unreasonable demand, and absolutly no attempt to collect on this demand.
Seems like an odd way of doing pirating to me, but then again, I'm not a pirate, so I don't have the proper point of view to judge this.

I wouldn't expect anything less from a 0.0 gate camp tbh. If the camp was done by an alliance, they were probably keeping people out of their space; if it was done by pirates they would want to quickly destroy your ship and check your lewt can, then pod you to send you many many jumps away from them. After all, nothing kills a gate camp more than someone sitting on the other side screaming 'awwww piwates!!!11one'

You should travel through lowsec instead... no warp bubbles there ! And pirates will ransom you for much cheaper. Bargain

if I get caught in 0.0 in a bubble or mobile warp disruptor and I can't get out, I'm dead. I don't even say anything.
Well, sometimes i'll smack them a little in local if they're taking too long to pop me. Only if it's an alliance or corp that I have little respect for, however.

If eve wasn't that way then rich ppl would have no worry at all about going through 0.0. i mean big deal if you get caught by a gatecamp, you just pay your way out of it right?
Also it does annoy me slightly when ppl think they deserve a ransom. most ppl don't pvp for the money. a lot of ppl really don't need ur isk and if u get very very lucky u may get say 30mil for a pod or so. peanuts mate. i'd rather hear the nice squish.

Some people just get paranoid when their pod is scrambled though.
I mean I blew up a guys ship and somehow managed to lock his pod and scramble it even though he ejected before his ship even blew up and I asked for 50m ransom for his pod, in fairness he was a 2003 player. He said "I dont trust you" and just tried to self destruct his pod. Needless to say I blew the b*stard out of his capsule but I mean why self destruct when your blown up by an organised pirate who immediately asks for a ransom when he convo's you.
Theres just no love out there any more people

I was thinking the same thing only a bit less nasty... just a bit. We attempt a ransom, we get a "**** you griefing *******!!!" So we stop ransoming and just start killing for your cargo (or for fun, or for that pretty explosion and wonderful squishing sound).

although i am not an outright pirate i have dabbled and tbh if i caught a guy in a ship which was worth less then my oxfam supplied shirt i would rather get the kill mail then ransom the ship and further more prolly the pod isnt gonna be worth much either. On the flip side if it was me flying around in a stabber and i lost it to a gate camp i would simply say good game and kiss my a.ss good bye. hello cloning station!
