I need to sit down and review what the requirements for the ammo BPOs are. This could have some very interesting effects. (Also need to work out what the profit per 1000 m3 on the pyre bearing rocks are, it might just be worth it to go do some mining, god help me). If i had a nice tech2 BPO i wouldnŠt mind paying that too
Also interested in knowing what NPC stuff refines at 9 isk unit.
Maybe i can give some use for my parked freighter.

even with curent prices there stil is a 300 million profit per carrier being made at jita mineral prices.

Which is probably why the Rens ammo market does *3 the volume of Jita.

I don't believe it's an issue of buying Pyerite for less than 5 isk FOB 50 jumps from Jita, it's an issue of buying it in sufficient volumes to make it worth logistic effort (and risk) to move it to where one needs it to be.

Hell I bought some pyre for 2.75 isk last night. Now I just have to wait for the pirate infestation and the wars to lighten up and I can make the looong lowsec run to Jita.
And if you're wonder no those mins aren't going anywhere near empire anytime soon.

The impact is pretty big for me -- it's hard to buy minerals in what might very well be a huge spike.
1. I don't want to get saddled with millions of pyerite if the price suddenly falls back to down to pre-Kali levels.
2. Stupid people don't understand that you don't have to sell ships for what you sold them for before Kali. In fact, you can't. There seems to be some unwritten rule that thoraxes MUST sell at 6.8m...
Bah.

If people think like you, which seems reasonable, the the prices should drift back down. 1) Smaller quantities purchased at a time means 2) More sell orders visibly sitting on the market means 3) More price sniping as miners try to sell their mins first = Lower prices
Of course, smaller, more frequent buy orders would probably do the opposite.

There's always lag time between mineral price changes and finished product price changes as people churn through whatever inventory they have which was built with cheaper minerals. Some builders also have decent sized stockpiles of minerals and adjust their prices more slowly.

I would like to offer the notion that many many miners do not sell their goods on the open market. Corporate miners mine for their own corps/alliances.
Across the board we have people admitting that production capacity is in part idle because of the lack of low to mid range minerals. For POS production facilities this may be true due to increased piracy in the system(s) around them, but for Empire this is certainly true because the macro-miners are currently not in business.
Like it or hate it, what is true is that their high-sec strip miners did provide ample and inexpensive minerals to the open market, often at such price points that made it worthless for the casual miner to try and compete with them.
If the macro-miners will really stay away for a while, then regular players, seeing the current prices, will take a shot at mining in Empire again and things will eventually stabilize.
I am not saying that all Empire mining ops were macroers, but I am saying that a large amount of hi-sec mining was certainly macroed.

I have minimized my mineral stocks. I just buy what I need for next factory run and I am expecting that current prices are just spike caused by the massive capital ship manufacturing or something similar. (Most likely girls in new regions are building capitals to defend their new regions.) However, interesting detail is that pyerite mining doesn't seem to have increased. I guess that missioning in high sec is still more lucrating/entertaining than mining.
I am updating my prices normally after factory run is completed - so at least my prices are going to follow mineral prices after small delay. So far, extreme low prices in zydrine and in other high end minerals have compensated pretty well low end minerals price raise. But it have definately raised prices in some items that I am manufacturing.

The thing is that Pyerite in particular is hard to mine in necessary amounts. The ores that yield it don't yield a lot and lots of it is needed for building. I'm anticipating that the price climbs even higher myself.
Traditionally (at least for my corp) lots of pyerite has come in from mission runners refining loot. Maybe with all the fighting going on, not that many mission alts are being used?

Well my main issue is that I really can't get my buy orders filled any more. So as I promised last week, I cleared the dust off of my covetor, found a nice system off the beaten path and started mining. I was worried that the price increase I imposed on my wares would mean less sales, but thankfully my customer base has not let me down.

Interestingly enough, Scordite is now worth more than Omber to mine and only slightly less worthwhile than Kernite. Pretty soon Scordite will be the primary 0.0 rock, heh.
This is completely due to the increased use of minerals by the new ships and the lack of macro miners.
I think the situation is GREAT. It means real people are making a crapload more for mining which is a good thing. The only people this hurts are the consumers of the final products. Producers can pass their prices along... I know I have.

Not everyone adjusts their prices according to what minerals are actually worth on the open market. Some people are content to sell ships for 112mil when the market value of the minerals are currently 109mil. Still a profit, but the margin is pathetic.

Let prices go up a little more and you can make money scrapping their ships for minerals. =D

We bought and recycled a large number of ship of the market, to use the minerals in other production. I dont mind people lowball their ship atm.

Edited by: Daemon Jax on 16/01/2007 03:49:49 I think it's the miner/producers not understanding the market well enough, and also they're letting their e-peens get in the way when they decide to undercut each other by 1mil isk instead of 1 isk.
EDIT: I've also noticed people competing against all regional sell orders, instead of just the ones at the trade hub. Kinda noobish, as the ones at the hubs are all that matter.

At what price point can you get Pyerite from NPC-sold goods for cheaper then on the market? I've heard that the magic number for Tritanium is 3.60 ISK/unit.
...
I'm rather fascinated by mineral prices and I do a weekly survey of prices in The Forge and what that means for raw ore prices.
2.40 Tritanium - Seems to be steadily falling.
9.60 Pyerite - Still rising in price in The Forge.
21.00 Mexallon - Stabilizing.
106.00 Isogen - Stable pricing.
460.00 Nocxium - Falling at a good clip.
Which means for the base ores, with a 94% net from refining (99% eff, 5% tax), the raw ores are worth:
67.75 Veldspar 112.78 Scordite 96.84 Pyroxeres 95.48 Plagioclase 107.97 Omber 115.24 Kernite
Pity that Veldspar only provides Tritanium and nothing else (like maybe 30-70 units of Isogen per batch).

Wait, mex is at 21??!?!?!
Man, you buy up 100 million units of mex at 4-6isk in low-sec, dissapear for 3 months due to work, and then come back to find you just made 1.5b instead of 500m :)

Market price for Pyerite in The Forge was down to 9.50 last night (large buy order in Jita). So maybe we're seeing the supply catch up with the demand.
Nocx is still falling like a rock though.

I think that the drop in nocxium prices is attributable to WTZ, and the increased availability of prototype cloaks. Both factors make hedbergite & hemorphite much easier to obtain. Suddenly going low-sec is worth it, even with the inflated prices of low-end minerals.
