Aliases, people come into EVE thinking they'll do the trial or just stay for a few hours then they're hooked and don't want to go back and create a new character or even won't see the added benefits of sporting a real name till much later. When they months later have grown dead tired of being Hugh Janus or Dao2 enter alias'!
It works as follow; People pay a certain amount of ingame currency for the privilege of a new name and field it much like a petition, fixed sum would range from 100M to 1B, ideally in an increasing fee for repeat offenders, doubling every time. Their old name is added to a list much like employment history and is easy to find for those wondering where their old nemesis went.
I'd also like for there to be an on creation name generator, a tool to help those among us who know they can't think of an immersive name to save their lives.
You like your nickname? There's nothing saying you can't have nicknames on the side of a real name, hell even in my outfit being name facists we nickname people left right and center.
Programming this you might want to add a unique podpilot number to each character which can never be altered, that way people who against all odds spam up name changes can never outrun who they truly are should the repoman come knocking. |

I've seen many say the same things you are saying. I do like the idea. |

I'm fairly certain that I encountered this for surnames when rolling up a char recently.
Perhaps changes of name/alias might be limited in the same manner as remaps to prevent serial abuse?
I do think that any character's original identity needs to remain highly transparent - an aka next to the name in the character sheet, f.ex.. However, for added immersion for all, or just for getting rid of a moment's silliness, I think it's a good idea.

"also known as" seems to be a very good compromise in the name change debate. my only objection has always been that people might try to use a name change to obscure their past; this cannot be allowed... your idea would not facilitate deception.
even upon character sale.. if a player does something to devalue the characters worth they must also risk paying the price when trying to unload the character. |

I really like my name, but I think this isn't a bad Idea. It's easier to erase you past by just buying a new character with new standings, new name, new employment history, etc... Changing name should be allowed since a character means a lot to some people and people change with time. Eve is not a short term game and being able to change name every couple years when you get tired of your old name should be allowed. It shouldn't clean standings, emplyment history or w/e. It should also show in the emplyment history and even on the main page of character: information. Besides that it shouldn't be free, and should only be allowed once a year or two. I support your Idea and I suggest you to post it in the assembly hall. |

CCP renames characters to "Caldari Citizen 12783291729", they could probably already rename characters.
"Also known as" tab somewhere that lists previous names like employment history that would be very easy to implement cause the function already exists. No excuses about being hard to implement.
I never would have thought this character would end up being my main, but I liked EVE and I didn't want to waste time training another character up to the one I started trial on. I would have settled on a different name had I been certain I was keeping this character. That said, I think a lot of people have an identity crisis in EVE on terms of character names.
Many points stated above. I should add, the character name changes should only be a yearly option like changing your Attributes. Not the matter of ISK, just no name spamming and you get one year to live with it. I think this is very fair and will not cage people, and still does not erase their history. |

Really, a name generator in place finally, that's great news, that means we're only about... 7 years away from aliases! |
