There have been some discussions about the spam filter before... I know the devs promised to have a look at it. Im not sure if they ended up doing something... I think the word "****" is allowed now though, dont think it was before.

Im pretty sure the words you wrote are censored because they are swearwords.
Hell, damn and crap are about as tame as insults get. One step above 'gosh' or 'darn it'.
Im pretty sure there is some database or whatnot with all possible combinations of words for blocking on sites or in game. Regardless, do you honestly think **** wouldnt be censored as much as***** **** **** or ****?

I have to agree that the P word being censored is pretty hilarious, that's the word that is taught to little kids and babies to replace the S word.

And as for the "who says" part - its ccp. The boards are teen rated and they are also a private board. They decide what is suitable. But they have listened to people in the past regarding this. CCP are far from unreasonable. :)

The profanity filters are based on common English usage. From time to time, we evaluate the words that are filtered out and do make adjustments as needed. The profanity filters on the forums do not catch all the slang, nor can it catch some work arounds (spacing, alt characters, etc.) For the most part, it is effective.

Its sort of effective in the manner if a tactical H-Bomb being effective in *****ing a walnut
Do not forget "***" of course- surely thats offensive to NOT be able to say it
And of course I can't even declare this thread a *****ing good time. What on earth is wrong with *****? What are we, censoring wourds that could be used as euphemisms for swear words now?! I think I'm gonna ***** up............. -----------------------------------------------

Sometimes words are RE-evaluated. ****ation anyone?
Oh, and just because it's not filtered doesn't mean the word is free to use. Language is subjective, which means you can't set solid rules for what is profane or not. Theoretically any word can be profane and any commonly profane word can be acceptable - but to tell the difference is the reason we have mods, no? - EVE is sick. |

Edited by: smashsmash on 08/01/2007 21:43:20 i never understand people who censor words like this: p**p or p*op
it's not like you can't guess what the word is. what is worse is the possibility that people exist that aren't offended by p*op but have heart attacks when they see p00p.

To be honest, I am greatly offended by you using the word 'gosh'.
Oh, and by the way, when you open the 'reply' window, you actually DO get to read all the words that the OP wrote...

orly?
EDIT: Gah, quickclicks ftl... Anyway, profanity is subjective to the person that reads or hears it, none of these words really bother me at all, unfortunate for me, I also use them in common conversation. Which brings on another point is after a while words loose their luster, the shock value.
Back in the day of Gone with the Wind the line "Frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn" (and no thats not how it was origionally written in the script, it was actually the name of a currency that is pronuced close to damn) was totally scandalous. People were shocked. These days however, I walk into work and its damn this damn that. Even on TV in the states the only words that are really blocked out anymore are S___, F___, and I found out today Boob is also aparently bleeped out on some broadcast networks. Strange... and after 11 PM to 6 AM usually nothing is bleeped out. IMO its only a matter of time before these words become acceptable, F___ will be last, but S___, well, that one probably wont take that long.

Ah Frack, it's amazing the Shazbott you can and can't say these days. Anyone watch BSG? They only have one word that they use 'differently'. Personally I would have liked for them to use more minor changed words to represent the common curses we use. Makes more sense, to keep it falvourful, but oh well.
Just silly that censors don't allow 1 word when they allow just about every other one these days on the tele. I mean they say ****, son of a *****, dammit, you name it. But Frack? WTF, it's just one word out of the others they use. What's the point?

That is from the origional BSG where they would say frack as the general curse, w/o all the other ones.
