I'm getting a nats confused over the specs for drones, I am currently flying a Gallante Vexor and am heading towards heavy drones in training (Lvl V-Drones), but the stats for sentry drones are starting to look appealing for PvPing, is it me or is there a generally known theory to this? Thanks in advance!

I have not ever used sentry drones, since minmatar ships have a little limited drone spaces (okay, not Typhoon), but:
- in PvP they might be little too simple targets to take down. They are stationary, thus any gun from your enemy will track and hit them.
- they are stationary, thus when you move to your target, they are left behind, and you cannot switch drones.
Only good thing I have heard about them is in mining ops, nice cover from faction rats. Also, might - just might - work in some weird medium-range gate camp.
I'd go for heavies on Vexor / Domi. -- V.H. |

Heavies on a Vexor?
You're better off training the other droneskills like Drone interfacing, Drone durability and so on. Then train for T2 medium drones.
Sentry drones are limited in use, due to their tracking problems they have to be set up at range, which essentially means they can only really be used in static situations such as gatecamps and possibly mining OP's. However, this means that if you have to run you'll have to leave them behind.
A GOOD things about sentry drones is the fact they have no flight time to target, you select a target, tell the drones to attack and damage will done done immediately. I still wouldn't really use them in combat though.

Yeah, most likely one of my corp's Gallente will next drop in and soundly spank me for declaring that above. Lots of T2 mediums is the way (and away with your wallet), I'll grant that... (still T2 heavies, trrt trrt) I'm all for lotsaa trrt trrt. :P -- V.H. |

Nothing wrong with heavies on a Vexor, if you know you're going to be fighting a slow opponent. Using two heavies, two mediums, and a light provides the highest firepower you can get for 75m3 of drone space. You can get up to 300 DPS with good skills, if I recall.

Sometimes use them on specific missions. I find them useful when you get warped into a trap of 6 or more cruise or heavy missile batteries, sentries can be immediately launched and start firing and will pop the batteries like its a party.
They will also clear BS quite quickly but it's not much of an advantage over Heavies for that.
If you're picking skills though Drone Interfacing is the way to go.

Im still on the drone sentry case, most of my drone skills are at a good level (4+) and I have been putting of the sentry bit, I sense there are some tactics to be had in small group with these up front, anyone else seen, heard or tried this before?

In PvE sentry drones are great to have in a Dominix. When everything is far away just take them out and shoot whatever you want. In there the theory is warden for anything farther than 35km or so, and Garde for rats that are closer, up until 17km or so.
In PvP the most logical way to use them would be as a stationary sniper. That means probably warden, as they are the ones that shoot farther away (50km optimal, 25km falloff), or bouncer (40km optimal, 35km falloff). And stationary because if you move not only you have to go back if you want to get your drones back, but also because if those drones are out you cannot launch any more drones.
Another way, a bit more suicidial in nature, would be leaving your drones at the right distance and then go up close and personal with webbers and warp scramblers (and guns, of course). You can also do this warping in and out because you remain in control of your drones for some time even if you warp out and back in of somewhere. If you have a friend that can blow them (or you can, like for example targeting the drones and making them kill one each other) in case you need other drones it'd be even better. Because the need of bookmarks this'll be probably more apt for those defending territory or pirating.
Have fun.
P.S. Never seen, heard or tryed the PvP before, just thought logical (to me) ways. Ther may be better ways to use them.
