Something always got my goat about EVE, and I'm not talking about a game-mechanics sense, but an immersion sense.
Sure, it makes sense that everyone starts in an academy corp of sorts, and from there we join "real" corps. What wierds me out is the "fallback" corps we fall into, based upon our ethnicity! (The Scope for Gallente, Aliastra for Intaki, etc)
Does this really make sense? Is there a mandatory employment clause in all the Empire laws governing pod pilots? Yet the "corp" is nothing but a chat channel, with no obligations. That's some killer tenure.
Why not just have an "unemployed" channel or let us close the damn tab?

Does it REALLY matter? If a single channel is bothering you that much make a one man corp.

Oh noes! A basic staple of EVE (the "mandatory" corporation crap cluttering employment records) is trivial!
I guess that means the rest of what we do is serious business?
EVE. Serious business.

Well actually the backstory is that ALL Pod pilots are sponsored by some corporate source or some such. You can safely assume that whatever corp you are put into as an NPC corp, is your original sponsor.
This system has obviously made the POD pilot's life very corporate centred in an attempt to make a name from themselves when the landscape is already dominated by so many great corps already. But yeah.. In otherwords. POD pilots.
Corporate Sponsored. You gotta be a slave to someone or be your own master. --------------

What I find most bizzare about it is there are no rules, no obligations, yet no way to quit either.
It's a twisted, bizzaro Post Office job with tenure so strong it's unbreakable.

Yes, but you'll STILL BE IN THE CORP.
It's a bureaucratic corpocracy not seen since the movie "Brazil."

Your faction won't let you down, thats the answer.
But something is TERRIBLY wrong. What happens if I, Gallente, happen to have a better standing with the Republic of Minmatar?
What happens when an Amarr chooses the good side and gets negative standing with the Amarr Weirdopire?
I guess that should be considered. Any experiences with those cases?

You're trapped with an NPC corp based on your ethnicity alone. That alone is bizzare.

Good film
Isn't that good? That the EVE universe has such an interesting, nightmarish-future twist? No-one said EVE was a nice place -----------------------------------------------

Guess that makes me a dwarf... Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Deep Core Mining I go...
I had a similar thought during that Elliot Ness thread where everyone wanted to tax NPC corp members instead of... hmm... shoot them? What if you simply went to an unaligned rogue status after leaving a corp? Once you leave your academy, that's it. No going back to anything NPC. After two weeks of rogue status you lose CONCORD protection due to your crimes of uh... "tax evasion"!
Tax evading rogues could flash mauve or chartreus or something on the overview. OMG! Pull Ovah! Car 54, come in. We have a Tax Evador flashing everyone at Jita 4/4! We think it might be Wesley Snipes!
Yeah... it could work. Anyway, would seem to solve alot of problems with ZOMGod-Mode Freighters, hiding in NPC corps, CONCORD protected logistic/industrial alts, and all those other 15% taxable crimes...
