The story goes as such:
Myself and another pilot have just spent about an hour and a half crusing around lowsec in Metropolis, searching for viable targets that my wolf and his rifter can take on. We see none, finally give up.
Five minutes later, I'm heading back to my home system, when I see a lone Scythe on my scanner. I quickly track it down, target its pilot, and execute a flawless lock'n'scramble on the poor, unsuspecting pilot.
With that accomplished, I open a conversation with him. He quickly responds that he would like to be ransomed, which I set to the tune of 2mil. He agrees, and I tell him he has 1 minute to comply or else I destroy him. In the mean time, I'm carefully observing the numerous people flying in and out of local for anyone who might possibly be a friend of his.
The ransom is paid with 15 seconds to spare. I thank him, there's some polite chitchat, no hard feelings by either party. Thrilled by my first successful attempt at piracy, I warp to the gate to make my speedy exit.
Yes. I warp to the gate.
While I'm figuring out why I can't make my jump, the sentries target me and begin firing. I attempt to escape, and nearly succeed, but, alas, my wolf is suddenly no more.
I head back to the station and dock. While there, I see the pilot I just ransomed heading in to dock as well, with HIS ship still fully intact. The irony does not escape me.
Once inside, I quickly log off to avoid any potentially embarassing conversations, while the entire hall of my dormitory wonders why I'm shouting "STUPID! YOU UTTER ****ING MORON! WHY DID YOU DO THAT!? WHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!"
This is going to be a fun career change... ___________

I'd like to console you by saying 'at least you'll never do it again', but I can hardly claim that, after losing 2 faction fitted Deimos by jumping into high sec as a criminal...

Ouch...
Sentries are killers for the smaller ships. While it doesn't matter much for T1 frigates , mistakes are much more costly with T2... a gangmate had his ishkur in structure yesterday , due to warping along with us - forgetting about his criminal countdown. Then he warped to a belt and had rats almost kill him again that was quite the scare for us.

No worries mate, I think all pirates will have made that mistake at least once at the start of their carreer.
Just make sure you learn faster then your wallet runs out in the initial weeks, and you'll do fine

You seem to be a quite honorable pirate, maybe that is not the career for you - maybe you want to consider the other side. You know if you want - you can always be a rougher sort of Vigilante.
Just a thought - although getting killed by sentries could still occur.

Yes, it is true, you are a complete tard. Just because your not a **** doesn't mean your not a pirate, or it isn't for you. How many Anti-Pirates do you know who would bother to ransom a pirate and or honour it in anycase?
And on the point of the thread, that's a bit of a silly mistake to make, but if your new to it, you can't really say that. Glad to see somebody else trying it out. ------

It happened to me once. Only I forgot what system I was in (my wife totally distracted me with this talk about 'bills' and 'grocery shopping'). Warped from my safe to the gate to change systems and head deeper into 0.0 space.
Except I forgot I wasn't in 0.0.
I was, however, now in a pod. I got lucky though and all my Ishkur's gear survived.

No offense but I think you should look at a new setup with wolf if you can't escape gate sentries in time... It should be possible pretty easy, and use the jag, its much better :P

People really do think funny sometimes. I have never ransomed nor killed anyone's pod. I just take their ship parts. Good people get them back. Bad people can go buy their own.
Now I can only speak for myself and what I do...
On the point of the thread - there are other alternatives now in this thread. The first part is CRIME. The following part is PUNISHMENT. Punishment is much harder than crime in my thinking. Hopefully the original poster will consider both paths with equal thought.
Being a Privateer and working for a cause is an option.
Being a Merc and working for a company for isk is another.
Being a Vigilante Anti-Pirate is the hardest road of all and quite boring since most (solo) pirates don't want a fair fight anyhow and run run run away. Killing organized pirates at gate camps is probably impossible for newer captains and probably should be avoided.
Look at all the options - is the point. I would rather every pirate join the Privateers or VETO than run about shooting anything that moves. That is my personal preference. Organize ----> follow a code. (Know a code)

you really should work on your fitting or you are just damn unlucky :)
engaging a ferox in my punisher, he gets reinforcement. My first action, **** lets run and warping to the first object...
a gate :(
so trying to make it and warp to a planet in 5% structure left :)
lesson of the story, do not put gates on your overview have 3 overviews:
1. targets (only neutrals/drones/bad standings)
2. i'm ****** (planets) and keep spawning the warp button
3. travel (stargates + targets )
...it is also really dumb to see a cyn field pop up and think, lets have a look and check the carrier out...
cynfields tend to open close to a pos... ***poof***
...eve's worst pirate...

Edited by: Ariel Dawn on 03/02/2007 04:07:55 Better to go through the school of hard knocks and lose a ship to something like this than later down the line when it can mean a ton more ISK. Just think of an 'ISK-saving investment' for the future.
