Hi all!
I'm relative new to EvE World.
IŠve played some weeks before the new expansion, and back to game this week. So many players are mad because the lag after expansion.
May the lag cause is the amount of wrecks in the world?
Think: - Before is cargo containers who explode after looting. - After is wrecks who donŠt explode and stay in space for "i dont know" minutes.
The increase of itens is relative big!
Maybe i smoking, but...

i think you are right. all the really busy systems have shuttles parked near the gate, that probably doesn't help either. ---- Would you like some cries with your whaaamburger? |

No. The lag was worse pre-revelations. So it's not wrecks.

i think the hi-sec secure can-spam in asteroid belts and ice fields is a major cause of lag. my computer noticablly jerks when loading into some of these heavily spammed belts.
wrecks are not contributing much bacause there are relatively few of them, and diligent folks such as myself salvage them pretty quickly in most places. ========================================== Iy |

It also has to do with mission runners. I've been in a system with 170 people, 90% running missions, where Jita with 600 people has had less lag.

Im only supposing that, cause I imagine the quantity of new itens in world to people load/transfer = more link usage.
The cargo spamming is another bad thing... ---------------------------------- :: Espfritos das Sombras :: |

There are many possible causes to the increased lag since the latest major patch (Kali? Revelations?).
'If' as you suggest its the wrecks etc, well all I can say is, if every single item mapped in 3D space is loaded for the entire system when you load it (jump in) then, someone needs to have a wee chat with the devs about how to design a modular system...Hope it is'ent this, otherwise we're in trouble > > Noli illegitimi carborundum! > |

Personally, I have anedoctal evidence that the increased lag with Revelations actually comes from client side problems instead of server side.
Case in point: Laptop w. P4 3GHz HT processor, 512MB RAM, 64MB GeForce 6200Go card. Used to be able to play Eve at 10-20fps in space. Now gets 5fps in space.
Desktop system: 3GHz P4, 1GB RAM, 128MB FX5200 card, used to be able to run two clients quite comfortably, now struggles to maintain both though switching between clients via alt-tab has improved.
I also get some graphics corruptions on both Amarr stations and the beige coloured planets.
I can't help but think they've "improved" some of the graphic processing routines in the client to make things "prettier" for people and it's slowing stuff down. ************************************************

Ummm.... i personally donŠt think on client side lag.
Im not ever measure the FPS in my machine, but at your machine (isnŠt bad), the FPS decrease considerably...

Actually, before this came out, people were worried about this very thing, that wrecks would cause more lag. There was a dev blog, said that wrecks/cans cause the same ammount of lag. They go away after the same period of time, so they're cluttering space just as much as the old cans did. The only thing that i can think of that would be related to wrecks, would be that for each wreck, you have to get the information about if the wreck has been looted and whatnot for the icon type.

I am inclined to think wrecks might have something to do with it. Lag existed before wrecks but it just seems different. You would get lag before and it would be a certain constant.
Now during a large engagement you get the initial lag, a few minutes down the line as you get your shots in between the frames of lag and wrecks start to form. After a bit a wash of lag hits you and mkaes things go from bad to worse. Yet after time things seem to clean itself up as if the system is cleaning the node up.

Eve could be lag free if they did something about all the friggin anchored containers that haven't been touched in years.

current lag is being caused by a nordic internet service provider having dodgy hardware and routing abilities

Framerate is not a lag problem. Please don't put the two together.
PS: Both jetcans and wrecks last only 2 hours.

If you ask me, my opinion about lag is that it's caused by certain secret group of pirates who are still annoyed by WTZ, so they are copying thousands of BM's over and over, just to annoy rest of us.
