I just tried it, it works fine for me in WMP9... I don't have any fancy codecs or anything, so I dunno. The mms:// protocol should play if you open WMP and do File / Open URL -- at least that's what I did.
It's a Daft Punk song by the way, can't remember the title and I'm not sure if it's the original or a slight remix, but if you're desperate to listen to it you could probably find it elsewhere, considering it's Daft Punk and all.
Edit: looking the MMS protocol up, I found out that it may be a problem for you to play it if you're behind a firewall. Maybe that's the reason?

I've skimmed through that page and it may be that this only concerns people who want to broadcast, not listen, but maybe it's worth checking out.

my winamp / windows media player says it wont play it because they dont recognize the mms protocol...im currently updating to WMP10... and yea I know its daft punk ;P its 1 of a bunch of ring tones im trying to preview on my comp but some reason cant...
My laptop, PC, my brothers laptop and my sister in law's pc all wont open it :P

Well, like I said, if you're desperate to get it as a ringtone and if your phone supports MP3 ringtones, you could just download the actual song and transfer it to your phone :)
BTW I also tried it with Winamp just now and it worked great (using v5.32), so I have no clue what's wrong with your setup.
Can you play WMA files locally (not broadcast)?

actually, now that you say it everytime someone links to a eve files wma, i usually cant play it :P wtf is up with the comps in my house?!

You shouldn't need a codec to play a WMA file--any such codec already comes with Windows Media Player.
