Edited by: Tasha Starstrider on 11/01/2007 09:09:58 For a few weeks I've had a new alt account, and have had a bit of an issue running both at the same time on my machine. Have looked back on the forums and haven't really seen any other posts, so I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue.
When I first got the 2nd account I just ran both fullscreen, and things run fine, except it takes probably 4 or 5 seconds for the clients to alt-tab switch to the other, which can be a bad thing during combat.
So I went and found EveLauncher which is pretty well recommended around here, and tried running them both in Windowed mode instead, with the window resized by EveLauncher to be in "fake fullscreen" mode.
The clients switch between one another a lot quicker now as they're technically in windowed mode... but other than switching between clients, performance is practically cut in half.
I've played around with it and am sure that the alternate client is minimized while viewing whichever foreground client, so I know it's not just sitting behind the open window trying to render.
For whatever reason though, things run smooth as silk in fullscreen mode except for the aforementioned delay when switching clients.
I am running from 2 seperate Eve directories and have tried clearing my cache with no effect. Anyone seen this before / know of a fix?
(Edit: I've also tried running in Windowed without EveLauncher at all and the issue is the same as described. =/ )
Thanks much.

I can just comment out of own experience here...
I run 2 accounts both in windowed mode without any problems or performance issues on either of them.
However with Alt-Tabbing I made some bad experience, since EVE tends to freeze completely on one client or another when you do it, forcing you to relog.
This didnt happen once while I was in 2 windowed, quite often in 2 fullscreens though. Siganture removed due to profanity - Serathu ([email protected]) |

Same problem here. A single EVE client can get about 130 fps (docked in station), with two clients the focused one will get about 15-20 fps, the other one 7-12 fps. And that is with the clients rendering on a different graphics cards (SLI-setup with SLI disabled and one monitor connected to each card) and a different processor (CoreDuo, each core showing only about 80% load)! (Disabling sound makes no difference, tested that first.)
Hallo? There's something wrong here. What's the bottleneck?

Has been happening to me for last few weeks but coincided with me installing a second gfx card on my system. SLI setup. I also use dual core AMD.
Essentially I find one of three clients will suddenly drop to 3-4 FPS and then in bursts will speed back up to about 20 before throttling back and this repeats on everage every 20 secs or so.
Very annoying as never had the problem before but there appears to be zero wring with the pc, drivers fully up to date on every bit, temperature is low on components, plenty of RAM, cpu load is averaging at 50-75 so plenty to go at there and disk is defragged and without errors.
This only occurs in windowed for me but i have not tried fullscreen as i tend to run 2-3 clients simultaneaously

I don't run multiple clients on one machine, when when I'm in windowed mode if I move the mouse off the EVE window my frame rate plummets. It's especially bad when some tooltip pops up like EVEMon's skill training done one. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | How to Build from a BPO |

I have 4 accounts and my setup is 2 comps side by side...
I have been running 2 accounts per comp in windowed for quite some time now. However, since Kali, the performance doing this has take a serious nose dive :(
They changed something, and now dual clients in windowed mode runs like dog sh!t even on my X64 3800 and x1800xt GPU machine...

I had this issue for a while and was very puzzled. It only happened with EVE. I could run EVE and any other game or games and have no problems. Once I opened a second EVE window and logged into the account, the framerate would drop to near zero. So after several hours of checking components, drivers, and the OS, something occured to me. During on of my sleepless nights, I had attempted to run Eve and Vanguard at the same time. In order to get it to work at anything nearing a reasonable framerate, I had to lower the graphics settings on both programs. So I checked, and sure enough, the graphics settings were different on the separate accounts. One was running with 16 bit color, the other one was running with 24 bit color and an 8 bit alpha. Other settings were also different, but I assumed that the color settings were what was causing the trouble.
After I changed the graphics settings back to their normal levels, where it matched the other account I had running, everything went back to normal and I was able to run more then one eve window with no lag

I've noticed this as well.
If I bring up a desktop Window such as a web browser while running the 2 clients Windowed, it lags horribly, even with the clients minimized. If I do so with the clients fullscreen, however, it works fine.
Anyone who's also having this issue mind testing in fullscreen to see if your performance returns? Any chance of a dev response on this to see if it's being worked on?

Same here, performance drop since Kali, especially with 2 clients.

My own experience >>
I sometimes run three accounts in windowed mode. I have no problems. I don't keep seperate folders of EVe, and launch, I launch all off the same executable. The only problem that I've experienced is with the sound. I have to disable the sound on all but one instance or my PC will lock up. The only problem here is that if you have sound on one instance of Eve, and log off....they will all have sound enabled when you log them back on, so I leave sound off. (Havent heard EvE in over year and a half.)
Worth a try I guess. Running Eve in Windowed mode should work better than running them in Full Screen...its easier on the Alt+Tab.
Again...just my own experience...so flame away.

I run 2 accounts from the same exe file and both full screen.
Alt - tabing between takes around 2 secs and it only gives me problems with sound and once in a while some graphic corruption that corrects if I Tab again.
So I recommend full screen.

I use evelauncher too and the performance isn't too bad, I suggest if your not using a client minimise is and the other open client window seems to run faster.
and don't use the bosskey option with evelauncher, that just screws things up afer a while I find, use the win key + M shortcut to minimise all

i find the best solution is to have 2 seperate installs of eve, and go from there, thus windowed and alt-tabbed works fine, no problems, even after rmr and revelations. -NEVER CONFUSE OPPINION WITH FACT-

Hello
I have no problems, other than sounds. I run 2 eve clients same time, got 2 19" screens, and no problems. Have been playing without lag with 5 clients open same time, lol! but then i had to switch windows much and it became irritating.
With 2 clients open, the active client has 165fps and the second client has 50fps on avarage, but when i switch to the 50fps screen and do something it grows up to 165fps and the other goes down to 50fps. All graphix maxed with 1600x1200 resolution, no problems. I think you just need good gear to perform well in several clients.

sounds like a recurring trend in dual-core setups, and with the new Kali update. Related to the DirectX issue?
I wouldnt be surprised if dual-logins/boxing/clients would go out of style as soon as the graphical update (Kali 3) hits.
