The pirate king is Psychotic Monk. He pioneered several avenues of content creation and was a hilarious guy, in an ******* sort of way. Also they arent exploits until they are declared exploits, remember that.

That's a pretty excellent recap of Monk's space career.
I was around for most everything after his encounter(s) with Broken Flames. It was during the campaign against Greywolf Enterprises (run by Maximus Aurelius, one of his top three favorite targets) that I joined up and started learning the ropes. To this day we still reminisce about that war.

A lot of us kept doing Belligerent stuff but sadly the channel and the website died and the community went their separate ways. BU refugees filled out the ranks of the New Order and other organizations. BU content became less easy-mode with all the nerfs. Key personalities unsubbed (or were permabanned ) and never came back.
The days when BU were really active were some of the best times I have had in this or any other video game. I look forward to seeing how this revival evolves, and to getting a new generation of Internet spaceship assholes up to speed.

My goal is the former. Unfortunately, I can only do so much to drive it. I'm trying to get some content for the blog and get people back into the channel. I've been seeing a lot more collaboration in the past week there than I did in the two months previous.
When we were first building this community three years ago, I wrote this:

Eve is not the same place as when this belligerent whatever had it's "success". Your forum was viewed by few, you're not memorable, you're just there. A lot of noobs may look up to you from that time, however, that's all you will get. Eve is less populated now and you won't find many followers, except perhaps the c and p regulars.

But compare the content of mining all day or running the same dozen missions for months on end or chasing incursions from one side of highsec to the other, listening to FCs on autopilot calling shots, and then realize that not all content is equal. There's a fine line between "clever use of game mechanics" to turn a profit and generate content, and an exploit - which would be abusing game mechanics.
According to CCP, what Skunkworks does is not considered an "exploit", and they "patched" the issue with changes to intracorp violence some time ago.
The system is working as intended.
The Pirate King is Psychotic Monk who raised thousands of dollars for charity during PLEX4GOOD. What have you done? Except whine on the forums?
That said this is amazing news and I am pleased.

Well, I give about $1400 dollars a year to the United way and the make-a-wish foundation as I am a survivor of childhood cancer. I think video game charities take their cut and not all the charity goes where intended. I wouldn't give to plex 4 good because ccp is making a profit from it, which I think is wrong.

I'm the player-driven Emperor of Amarr(refer to top all time killers in Amarr)and once again active. We have some great wars starting tonight and I plan on blowing up a lot of stuff. The termite queen still has a bee in his bonnet, but I'll waste his little termites if they get in the way.

The past few days haven't felt very pirate-y. It's interesting running into wartargets who use the system properly to make a wardec utterly pointless. On one hand, I want to congratulate them on understanding the mechanics well enough to do that. A big part of what Monk and I always wanted was to see the general Eve population, even the carebears and white knights, playing the game better.
On the other hand, it is REALLY frustrating to see just how viable it is to simply ignore a wardec and continue normal operations.

There's plenty to do in highsec. Currently I have:
- An alt baiting for killrights that gives me a couple of kills a week.
- A throwaway alt working on a way to steal about 1.5 bil from a corp (hey, it'll buy my next PLEX)
- My role in the POS survey. plus wardecs to clean up the pinatas that are found.
- Hunting wartargets, including a sliperry ice fleet that I'm going to bag in the near future (I think)
- Occasional suspect baiting, trolling, and generally being me.

Just wanted to say the BU community has been pretty awesome lately. People are finding creative ways to do stuff, helping each other achieve new levels of criminality, and generally being awesome. We're also now looking to strengthen ties with the miner bumping community after loyalanon informed me there had been issues between the two while I was away. Given our history of cooperation with the New Order--Monk and I flew with James years ago--I was disappointed to find out that certain Belligerents had been a disruptive influence for our brothers in the ganking community. I've pledged to remove any such problem players from the BU channel should such things happen again.
CODE. and the rest of the gankers in highsec are probably the largest organized group that fits the Belligerent Undesirable label. They are always welcome among us (even when they gank our Orca alts...*ahem*) and the effort and ability they put into their art certainly deserves our respect.

I'm curious. Was the enmity between some BU operators and CODE. derived from an "old school vs. new school" thing? Where the BU guys long time players?

Yeah, I"m going to leave it at that. See, that's the thing about not being a carebear: I accept the risks that come along with doing things. Loyal did have the decency to return my Stratios to me (I was bummed about losing my killmarks), but I was not expecting anything out of it.
