So today was the 1st time I was able to successfully do a combat site that was harder then ones in high sec...the sansha rally point, which is in low sec. I was using my Raven and was armor tanking because it seems that EM resist for armor is 50% while shield is 0% EM resist. I felt that instead of trying to buff shields that begin at 0%, why not just buff armor instead since it starts at 50%? So I was using 6 rapid heavy launcher with majoliner along with 2 armor repairs and a armor EM hardener. The hardener gave a 50% buff so my armor resist went up by an additional 25 to become a total of 75% EM armor resist. I went and found a rally point for the sansha faction and was able to beat it without dying and I was able to do it all by myself..it is definite harder then the combat sites I experience in high sec, because this one had a battleship as the "final boss". I think my experience was very satisfying for me because I was able to observe the change in difficulty between the amount and type of ships being spawned as well as the noticeable increase in damage opposed to the combat sites in high sec.
Last note..slightly unrelated but super funny.. As I was traveling back to my home station.....a random Falcon tries to warp scramble my Raven BUT FAILED! :) I think it was an attempt to gank me......if it had been a success, that player wouldn't have seen anything interesting to loot.. *cough* except meh 9 K majoliners *cough* |

But in all seriousness, I think the general consensus is that the Raven is inherently more suited to shield than armour tanking - hence the number of midslots :)

Just in case this was serious, you know if you had gone with a shield tank and some ballistic controls in your lows instead, those Sansha-ships would have probably died fast enough to utterly negate the usefulness of the higher EM-resists in your "Armor Raven"?
Also Sansha inflict EM and Thermal damage, so 1-2 invuln + giving up one mod-slot for additional EM-resists work a lot better then just throwing armor tank on a ship deeply unsuited for it. |

+1 for the spirit of adventure from a newbro.
I've been playing for years and it took me a minute to digest the words "Armor Raven" and "difficult Sansha Ralley Point lol", but I guess to someone who is new, those things are more reasonable
What you will learn is different ins and outs of tanking. For PVE, the Raven excells as a long range ship that relies on active tanked shields (and again, range) for defense. The reason Ravens tend to not be armor tanked is because it's low slots are better used for modules that increase it's firepower and damage application rather than tank. Shield tanking uses mid slots for the very most part and the Raven has more mid altos than low slots.
Below is a modification (for sansha rats and low sec) that I made for a newbro in my alliance.
[Raven, Raven: Sansha newbro lowsec] Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
Large Micro Jump Drive 500MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive X-Large Shield Booster II EM Ward Field II EM Ward Field II Thermic Dissipation Field II Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Acolyte I x10 Hornet EC-300 x5
The target painter helps yo applie damage to smaller targets (cruise are great aginst BS/BC, not so much cruisers and below. The MJD is to let you jump 100 km and get range from npc, or in some cases jump away from pvp danger.
The MWD and cloak are so you can use the MWD/Cloak Trick to get trou8gh gates, very useful if you are going to fly in low sec where people can more easily kill your raven.
This ship has a extra large shield booster. You keep it off most of the time and when you shield gets low, turn it on till your shields are up again, then turn it off. Turning it off makes you regain cap so you can turn it on again as needed.
Give it a go and see how it works
Edit, also, train ecm drones. I redid the fit to include them The small Hornet EC-300 won't help you in pve, but in low sec you will encounter PVP and ECM drones can break a lock on a ship warp disrupting you long enough to get away. |

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

That's a pretty big "might be", though. Either way, your volley and ROF will suffer by a mile and your tank doesn't get any better for it. Besides, the difference between 0% EM on the shields and 50% on the armor is more than made up for by simply adding an EM resist mod, considering the number of mids versus lows, HP differences, and what you would general find in the slots you don't use for tank. It's a nasty trade, almost as bad as faction module prices...almost.

+1 for having the guts to travel into Low Sec! I don't have the guts to travel in Low Sec! I'm scared.
Also +1 for coming up with a creative way to take advantage of the natural EM resistance in armor. Not the standard use for the Raven, but, hey, you tried something new and it worked out...this time...
Everything regarding using a Raven to shield tank not armor tank has already been said.
