Hi i've just started playing eve and my experience with it has been somewhat disappointing but thats why im here :)
When my computer has been off for some time, and i get on it and turn on eve i will be able to play it for some time but eventually it will completely lock up my system and make my screen turn black and repeat the last piece of sound played over and over untill i turn my pc off...
i have tried turning the sound off, turning down the sound acceleration, turning down graphics settings all at once yet it continues to lock up my system..
there is nothing wrong with my RAM and my graphics card isnt overheating either, neither is my cpu..
my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Nvidea GeForce 6800 LE 128mb
Sound blaster live 5.1
1024mb ddr400 ram
windows xp service pack 2
i have no on-board soundcard
i have a realtek on-board network card
i have the latest geforce drivers being ver93.71 released a few months ago
ive never had this kind of problem with any other game before, i hope there's a fix for this so i can actually play eve-online :)

soundblaster live drivers are a bit tricky. dont use the default ones from windows. Hard to find the right ones,
this one should be the right one

but how could the soundblaster live affect my eve when my sound is turned off in the first place?

it still could call drivers, it still could be a IRQ conflict or something due to not so optimized drivers. I just suggest you do always the good/right drivers.
For your realtek you need some drivers aswell.. Lots of ppl have / had troubles with crashes do to "irq_less_or_equal" for network card :)

oh ok :D ill try all of that, didnt expect eve to load the drivers when the sound was disabled let alone call functions from the dll's, ill try installing fresh drivers for both! thank you for your help, personally i see no other way to fix this :)

its not necessary EVE that calls the drivers, but windows itself :-P

i tried installing new soundcard drivers, and network drivers, still locking up :(

you installed nvidia drivers or using default ones?
you checked your mem for fun using www.memtest.org ?
You could try the Optional Patch that can be found here

as i said before, im running the newest geforce drivers
my memory is working fine
and my eve doesnt crash to the desktop so theres no need to install the optional patch
my eve completely butt***** my pc and makes it hang it doesnt even make a crash dump because it simply doesnt have any time for it, i cleaned out my case and double checked it for overheating but nothing
it still hangs

maybe i can give u a direction where to search...
I had the same problem, after the last patch.
my pc freezed completly. after i disabled my onboard i was able to play eve without a freeze.
i bought a new low coast soundcard, the sound wasnt fine, so i tried again my onboardsound( with the lowcoast soundcard still installed), and hey...all was okay, i can play now again with my onboardsound without freezes.
i had no problems with hardware irq's in windows, but after i installed another soundcard i have now new irq's so maybe there was a problem with them.
so, u can try to put your soundcard in another slot to get another irq for it under windows. or if onboardsound, enable and install it. then u get normally another irq for your soundcard too.
that fixed my freezes...maybe it can help u too..

Im on the same boat. Can't play more than 20 minutes at max.
Never had problens, until four days ago it started going all black of nothing. Gonna due some more tests with audio here ( onboard realtek ). If i get any luck will post.
My hardware is a intel C2D and a ATI 1950.

I was having the same issues. The game would completely lock up the computer. I thought it was a virus so I whiped my HD and reinstalled everything. Now I can't even install eve. It freezes up the same way It was when I was actually able to play.

Hei guys! What happened?! Have u given up?
Any of you has solved the problem so far?
I am a newbie in the gang of "eve blackouts", lock-ups, hags, crashes..etc.. Not even a blue screen to see where the problem is.
I have reinstaled all my system, updated all the drivers, turned the sound off etc.
still a big black nothing on my screen!
and it used to work just fine..
my system is:
IBM T40
Intel Centrino 1.5Ghz
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
SoundMAX integrated digital audio
512 mb Ram
Win XP prof SP2
any clue?!
