I'm going to be skilling for battleships as soon as I get my inty, however I don't know which one to get. I'm stuck between the Tempest and the Mega. Could someone give me like a pros and cons of the Battleships?*

what skills are your gunnery in? if you trained t2 hybrids then surely your further on your way to flying a thron than a temp or vice versa with projectiles
But the mega looks sexier |

I like tempest better for snipping and fleet, the mega more for close range blaster work.

Mega > Tempest in pretty much all cases due to T2 ammo.

T2 = Tech 2 There are no Tech 2 Battleships in the game. Tempest & Megathron are TIER 2 Battleships.

I far prefer the tempest to the megathron. But like most matari ships it does require MUCH better skills to fly effectively.

Agreed and, as far as Gallente ships go, the mega is far more skill intensive then others tend to be (i.e.: the dominix which is nearly on-par with the raven).

Yeah, the Thron definitely ain't 'newb friendly'.
Although I'll admit I'm not entirely sure how it would compare to a Tempest skill wise. ------------------------------------ It's great being a Dev, isn't it? |

I'd say Tempest.
Both ships, well, all battleship (apart from dominix) are very skill intensive tbh Which is why I recommend tempest, you can use EW.

He made a valid point, and he wasn't rude about it. You should go back to ignorant land.

Go with the Mega.
For one, the signature strength of the Tempest is long range with high alpha for psycological murder. However, with the HP buff and the T2 ammo nurf, the Tempest's dps has droped and alpha strike has been reduced. These problems may be fixed, but for now, I see little change in the poor dps my tempest does. As for long range, the training of hybrid wepons will help you train for railguns, which are used on the very powerful Rokh. Sure its a caldari ship, but getting that Large Hybrid 5 out of the way aids you in many ways. The Rokh out-performs the Tier 2 Tempest in DPS, range and survivability.
Now the Mega is a scarry ship, and one mistake in one will cost you the whole toy. It is not nub friendly in the least, and a the difference between a new Mega pilot and an experienced one is massive. The tempest is just as unforgiving though, since artillery have poor rate of fire and do so little dps. A nub tempest pilot can die to an interceptor, a nub mega will still be a slight threat - now multiply. In all combat situations, I call the mega before any tempest because it is a bigger threat. And if you are looking for a good ship to spend the next year and a half perfecting, toying and fighting in, I would vote for the mega over the tempest anyday. After that time, if the tempest is still attractive, then you can always train for that.
Finally, Gallente BB5 is a nice skill to have. Gallente capital ships are quite nice, and the drone skills you will accumulate from your mega training will help you jump into them faster. Yes, its a long ways away- but BB5 is a skill you will want, and in the end, your first BB5 will be a defining moment in your character.

After the latest patch, i'd say Tempest wins vs Mega 1v1 close range, also your range is much better with tempest. You can even fit 2 nos on your ship.
Besides, you get access to nanophoon, fotm right now.
From gallente line, you'd get domi though, it's a class on it's own.
All in all, i'd say, train for domi and/or nanophoon if you want to pvp, or for domi if you want to pve.
Leave tempest and mega for the future, they are a lot harder to fly, pilot skill and sp wise.

Honestly I prefer the flexibility that the megathron can provide. You can easily shift between high defence / damage setups, and the ship can have an operational range (depending on wich family of hybrid you prefer ) of anywhere from 500m to 150km. The full benefit of that is that its easy for your target to misjudge your setup.
On the flip side, Tempests arent quite as prevalent in a pvp environment (at least in my personal experience) because of limited effective setups for them. Tho I have to admit, when a tempest is set up right, it can be a very solid asset to any group.
In the end tho, the megathrons flexibility prevails for me. Plus, any skill you train to be effective in a mega is going to be a very stong asset for any galente ship, and is also directly transferable to the Rokh (not to mention other fun caldari toys).
My advice is to go fly a rupture, then a thorax. Wichever you feel more comfortable in, stay with that race.

The Tempest is imho the best battleship out there, but it really does require the most skill training.
Everything short of large spec 5 is probably a good idea to have, tho i seem to do pretty well with the skills i currently have in it. Also when your skilled in matari you'll get the maelstrom and thats just 7 shades of sexy.
Megathron i kind of a boring ship to fly imho. -------------------------------------------------------- Forever Pirate 2

Do you shieldtank or armortank? A very valid question IMO.
I Armortank myself and thus I recon that the Mega can tank much better then tempest as it has more low slots.
OTOH If you shieldtank the megathron is totally out of the question.
I like both ships though. I armortank my Tempest and it works, just not as good as with the Megathron. But the Tempest has other qualeties.
But as many already have mentioned; Minmatar ships are very skill intenvisve in comparison to other races...

I would say.. fly hurricane and brutix. Then choose the older brother of your preference.
Tempest has higher DPS until the 4th salvoe.. from then on the mega goes ahead. Just remember that 4 good salves is enough to dispach a few HACs at long range....
If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

To the OP:
Since you said you dont know which Battleship to get yet, i take it your choice is still open to include more ships than just the tempest and mega?
If so you could also train for a dominix. It is tier1, but for many purposes it is on par with the mega. Obviously you will need good drone skills for it, so disregard that suggestion if you dont want to get into drones.
