I'm used to lag in PvP, that's inevitable. What I don't like is when my Apoc warps into the last room in Serpentis Ex Lvl4 and my screen freezes for over 10 seconds while the game loads all the rats. Of course you warp in at point blank range, so I had one frame of warp tunnel, 10 seconds later i'm in 1/4 armor because I couldn't fight back. That's ******* stupid. And the problem isn't my comp, this thing is very capable.
I would lean towards this being broken, it's really bad, and it happens every time. Only after 7-8 warp ins am I able to kill enough stuff to not have to warp out straight away. Why does the game have to load so much at such a critical point, can it not be streamlined? On an even simpler level, can the rats not be moved from 1500m away to 20km away, just to give the player time to get past the lag?
And finally, does this happen to anyone else? I have a few lag issues but never usually this bad. ------ ------

Actually no, this has never ever happened to me in the 3.5 years I have been playing EVE. What system are you in? And what are your computer specs?
I've had 3 second lag while spawn loads, but that's about it. But then again I do missions way off the main mission hubs.

Now i'm on the lookout for it, i've noticed it happens alot more. Never nearly as bad as the warp in, but only for a second or two, usually when something happens and alot of rats start to target me.
System properties says:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.21Ghz, 3.5Gb RAM, with two Radeon X1900 Series for each monitor, of which there are two. I'm running two Eve Clients, both of which have characters present in the mission. ------ ------

Well, there's nothing wrong with your computer. Did you check ping to server? Packetloss, and the likes. Just grasping at straws really.

You mean this doesn't happen to everyone? It's the main reason I quit doing missions - losing ships before you even get a chance to see wtf is going on is not my idea of fun, not to mention getting the same mission 4, 5, 6 times in a row. It's like unless you setup a crazy passive tank, you will most likely lose your ship on warp-in to a mission, sooner or later.
I've often wondered why people think 0.0 ratting is more risky than missions, but I assumed everyone had the mission loading freeze-frame. The ****ty part is that while you can't do jack while the mission loads or whatever it's doing, the rats have no problems wiping the floor with you during that time. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

Have you tried adjusting the buffer size in the pref file in your main game folder? If you have that much ram try setting it to 1gb.

I get the same thing happen on level 4s where there are lots of rats in the room. It's a real pain. I would rather have fewer rats in the room, which are harder to kill, than too many rats which cause lag. Hopefully CCP will do something about this in the future.

I found something called: 'buffer' in the prefs file, it was 80, now it's 1000. The game is still lagging a teeny bit, but I haven't run any missions since I changed it as i've been busy with PvP.
Did this work for anyone else? ------ ------

I'm getting this more and more. I attributed it to the count in the local tab getting close to 200 because it's the only good lvl 4 agent in the area. I warped into Jita when there was over 600 peeps in local and I couldn't even drag items from one container into another.

Edited by: Issei on 13/01/2007 18:41:14 Guys, I had something even worse happen to me just yesterday. I was in Kakakela with 88 peeps in local trying a lvl 4 mission (don't remember the name atm, something about a mad scientist). My Raven had a permatank with 1 Gist C-Type X-Large Shield Booster, a Gist X-Type Shield Boost Amp, 3 Invul IIs, 1 DCU II, and 3 shield resist rigs. The first time I warped in, my screen was frozen for about 15 secs. The second time I tried (with all mods turned on) it stayed frozen for 45 secs and by the time I could lock I was at 1/4th shield and warp-scrambled. My smartbomb couldn't kill those frigs fast enough, so I lost my ship... Now, I think this is ridiculous. I mean, I now know I probably shouldn't have warped back in, since everything had already moved to the entry point, and they were too much to tank, but how can they expect me to be able to assess the situation if I can't see anything for 45 secs? Besides, some peeps like hit-and-run tactics. I hope it was a server or connection issue or something, but I'm too afraid to try again, at least not with a set-up that expensive.
I've filed for reimbursement for the first time. Do you think there's any chance of me getting my ship back?

Maybe, but not in either of our lifetimes. :P
I do notice that i'm trying to turn things on, especially crucial things like remote armor reps, and it'll just do nothing for a bit while flashing a message about waiting for the mod to start working or something. Then all the rats change places and 1/2 your hp is gone. Something needs to be done I reckon. CCP! Listen to us! ------ ------

Did you try turning off sound? It reduced the problem quite a bit for me, still not perfect but still. I avoid Pirate Slaughter for this exact reason, that last pocket is not playable for me.

45 sec lag? u guys are lucky. i get way more than 45 these past couple of days. it has become a habit of mine to engage the tank before i warp into a room. when lag clears all the ships are orbiting me- if i warp out i can basicly cancel the mission.

Actually that is the reason why I'm gonna go run missions for someone not inside "the citadel". Thats the place where I'm having lags like that and one time ended up with empty cap and deactivated boosters and hardeners because it simply wouldn't turn the freakin thing off! *growl*
So far I haven't lost anything. I shure hope you get your ship back as it's very much not your fault.
I wonder if another option would be to shift more performance to the citadel. Going the forge or lonetrek its fine really... unfortunately all IV agents of higher quality seem to be stuck in cita.... *growlsmore* NOT HELPING!
But if I have the choice betweeen q20 in Cita and q-4 in Lonetrek I know what I choose untill the lag issues are gone.
