Anyone else using these & noticed any slowdowns? All previous driver iterations(15.7.1, Beta's etc) have all behaved perfectly but the crimson drivers are making Eve borderline unplayable for me.
I've done all the usual careful uninstalling and even rolled back drivers to validate, game settings & graphics card settings have been consistent etc, all other games are fine with the crimson drivers.
R9 380 4Gb(if it matters)
Thanks!

you are not the first one to complain about ati and eve, lots of post in the past month or so about issues and graphic bugs/artifact
you are the first one to report an "OK" when doing a rollback.
I really urge you to post that on the support by creating a ticket, or bug report, F12 in game but you would need the drivers that cause a problem for them to have a trace of it from your client.
Also a stupid question that is bothering me : are you using DX9 or 11? lots of people have checked DX9 in the past, that may have some issues now when you do ctrl+F in game to see your Framerate, it should say DX9 or DX11 if it says DX9, then close the game, go in the launcher setttings and look for the selector that is set to DX9 then set it to 11 and try again. |

I am having the exact same issue with the new Crimson Drivers and a new R9-380 4GB version. Rolled back to 15.7.1 and it fixed the frame rate issues. But it is quite unplayable with the new AMD drivers. Also the new Crimson Beta drivers released just a few hours ago sadly do not fix the problem. You are better off rolling back to and earlier version if you want eve to be playable on your R9-380. |

The roll back DOES NOT fix the artifacting issue with AMD cards. It only fixes the poor frame rate issue which is quite bad by the way. |

Thanks for the replies, as far as the artifacting is concerned I've got used to it since 2012, If Eve does not go wonky or throw up a few white screen issues once in a while something feels wrong.
I'm hoping it's something CCP can fix, the crimson drivers do offer some good features and are ideal for the other games I play and this is the first time I have been directly impacted by a driver update in Eve.
A client fix would be lovely. |

As said above : Ticket on the support site, or bug report in game
this forum is like eve help channel : player help, you'll get ccp to tell you to make a ticket if they answer here :)
(omg living with graphic bug for 2 years and not complaining... if no one report ccp something is wrong, they won't fix it, given the threads about graphic bugs since a month, they probably know now, but tell them just in case)

Agreed... I have submitted a ticket to EVE support as well as reporting the issue to AMD. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. I don't want to roll back drivers just to play one game. |

I don't know specifically what issues you are having but here is the issue I am having using a Radeon HD 6520 G:
Framerate is OK, essentially no lag issues in graphics Background is MISSING entirely, in a station I can see my ship, and everything looks okay ONLY IF IN CQ mode. In station if CQ is off I can see chat, NeoCom, Station services, and inventory boxes, but cannot see station background or ship itself In Space I can see, stations, gates, players, NPCs, the Sun, and gas clouds, but cannot see planets or the background
NOW. If I have focus offscreen with eve behind it everything loads fine. (teamspeak window, Steam chat window/friends, switching between two eve accounts.) The second I switch back to EVE it's all gone except what little I described.
This graphics bug is new since the Crimson update. I know the stars are unimportant, but it just feels so lonely like the Sleepers just ate all the regions of EVE all at once... |

Ill add to this thread to, I haven't played around to much yet for a work around but I'm having major issues with the new drivers - Eve is unplayable.
I'm running 3X290x's, one for each monitor, completely over the top for playing eve and since crimson driver install I have major freezes and lock ups. From my observations, NPC's seem to cause the most.
If anyone figures out a fix without rolling back the drivers, please let us know and I will do the same.

Ditto here. Picked up a 390 recently to replace a 570GTX.
Crimson Drivers are Russian Roulette lately.
Unusual frame rate dips, and if enough effects are present on screen, the AMD driver dumps completely. Get the error that the driver has crashed and recovered as well as that exefile.exe has been locked out of graphics controls.
Wiped every single graphics driver in safe mode with DDU to be sure. This has been on DX11. Going to roll back to catalyst 15.7 and try DX9. Still bummed my crappy 570 was able to run both clients and the R9 has not been fun :( Waiting for eve to crash in the middle of a fight at this rate.

290X and Windows 7 64-bit here
When i run EVE Online with any Crimson drivers, in either DX11 or 9, regardless of graphics settings. The graphics freezes, the cursor freezes, sounds keep playing (not on loop), drivers crash. Drivers recover partially but need a reboot. Aside from severe performance loss and stutter that happens when looking zoomed in on effects or towards a group of objects in space(missions). That is from being at 200~ FPS or 60 stable at interval one. Down to slideshow level, yet FPS meter doesnt go below 30.
The crashes seem to happen randomly and only with Crimson, but it happens from between 10 minutes down to 30 seconds from launching the clients, with Catalyst 15.11.1 its smooth as pie and the performance is rock solid high.
There are no hardware or overheating issues, its a strictly a software issue, no antivirus or similar installed, only possibly conflicting software installed would be Kawaii Codec Pack .
Well no Crimson for me at least, not sure if its an EVE client issue or Crimson driver issue. |

I have always had issues with eve. I love this game and have played it for years, and I am really looking forward to the upcoming Citadel release. Anyways, I have had a 7870 OC and then a CF 7870 OC and now a r9 390 OC, and the fps and just overall lag is literally unbelievable, I can play literally every demanding game on the highest settings ato 1080p, but eve at it's max is literally 30-45 fps and horrible lag, and it's that was docked, undocked, in a belt, warping, pve, pvp. Doesn't matter. I'm sorry, but that's unacceptable. I know I say this and I really only have limited knowledge on what it entails, but I really think dx12 is something that needshould to be done, especially with the way the game play is heading. Better sooner than later. That's my rant and *****. Cheers. |

I'm having some similar problems with my new AMD card. With a combination of refusing to update driver and completely removing the Raptr (sp?) software, some of the graphic hangups have slowed down. That Raptr.... thing.... was really causing some lag/framerate headaches. There's still some problems but it's better than it was.
Two reasons I won't Nvidia it. Price on their hardware, and they're still riding the hype from buying out Voodoo in my memory.

+1 I am running 2 x R9 390X's with triple screens and this really needs sorting out asap, I have reported to both CCP & AMD and have managed to stop the crashing by doing the following :
Turn off ALL effects in the effects list and disable HDR this has removed 99% of the driver stopped responding errors but switching to DX9 made the game stutter a bit more than it had been.
Hope this helps. |

Hi guys.
I have this issues where the fps dropping to 30 in some cases, even though the fps without interval/v-sync in the same situation is beyond 100.
Like Asteroid godrays, thera sun or new truster effects zoomed in. In those situations my fps drops from 60 to 30 with vsync on, even through it's way above 60 with vsync off and stable.
Is this the same bug you guys are having?

With vsync enabled the card will try to maintain a frame rate that matches the refresh rate of 60 or divisions thereof. If you drop to 45 it will drop it even further to 30 in order to prevent tearing. Unless screen tearing is an issue you should leave vsync off. This however isnt the same as interval one. Interval one just caps the game internally at 60 which reduces load on the card.
( I think. A search on the interval functions will shed more light on it. Just be sure vsync is off in your driver settings as a start)

Interval one isn't exactly the same as vsync. Interval one caps you at a frame rate that approximates your monitors refresh rate. Any more frames than that are wasted compute cycles because you simply cant see any frame rate that is taking place beyond your refresh rate and in fact it cambeven cause problems with screen tearing.
Vsync similarly caps your frame rate at your refresh rate but will also attempt to match your frame rate to divisions of the refresh rate to further prevent tearing. So if you're at 60fps and you get a sudden increase in load and drop to 50, your pc says 50 is no good the frames arent synching with the monitor refresh so I'm gonna drop to 30 so that the frames stay in sync.
Now your card may be fully capable of keeping the frame rate over 100 but any change in load can still cause the frame rate to fluctuate. If its at 100 fps it might only fluctuate to 90 and if its at 60 it might drop to 55. So if you are interval one and capping at 60 and you also have vsyc turned on, the frame dips a little then the vsyc over compensates and intentionally pushes you even further down.
I had a tonof trouble with this running elite across 3 screens. In pvp arena it was very jarring the way the fps would drop to 30 or less e vsync on. Simply turning it off kept the entire experience smooth.
So for starters make sure you have vsync set to always off in your graphics card settings. You will still experience dips no matter what interval youre using but you dont want vsync making things worse.
Vsync and why it's bad.

As for the zooming in on the new thruster effects and such, I've found that is related to AA settings. (at least for me) With AA low or off I can look at whatever I want as close as I want, but with AA set to med or above any zoom that brings me in close to those lighting effects causes rather large frame rate hits. Might be something that CCP can optimize in the future.

I honestly do appreciate your detailed answers and explanation of how Vsync and framerates work, however, I do not believe the interval one setting itself to be the cause of the issues we've been experiencing.
My framerate seems to fluctuate heavily between 45 and 50 in space and 60 in stations with my client's Present Interval setting set to Interval One. With the same setting set to Interval Immediate, my framerate never dips below 100.
Also, the GM who replied to my ticket regarding this technical issue on 4th of december last year, revealed that more people have reported this very same issue after upgrading to the Crimson drivers. The GM also suggested rolling back to the newest driver before Crimson (15.7.1) until the issue is resolved (thereby confirming this is a technical issue CCP is aware of).
Unfortunately, I'm not able to check whether downgrading my drivers to version 15.7.1 has any effect.
Systems with a similar hardware and software configuration to mine with NVIDIA cards do not seem to suffer from these low framerate issues when their EVE client's Present Interval setting is set to Interval One. |

Thank you for trying to help. But i purposely mention two(2!) times in the text that you quoted that the fps without interval/vsync is above 60. Was was trying to paint a picture (video) for you, but the fps went up again when I started to record. So the load on the GPU was higher, it clocks up again and boom, i got 60 fps in the same situation while i record.
With a program like clockblocker, that stops the GPU from downclocking it stays at a stable 60 fps. But that will again increase the heat and GPU usage, just what I'm trying to avoid.

I did a bit of testing:
Sitting in station. setting c fps interval 1 33 60 framelocker 42 60 interval immediate 50+* 200+
I stopped here.
So disabling the interval 1 is not useful for me, as the card heats up to 50+c, gets louder + coil whine. framelocker will lock the mhz to 1000 and the heat will rise a bit, still better then disabling interval. just interval 1 is best, but will result in 30fps in some situations.
