Ok so after the flamewar the last thread was:
I'm at my wits end with my computer, whenever I try to play a movie, no matter what player I try to use, or what format the video is in all that happens is the player opens and the my computer get lagged to hell, I've done numerous virus and adaware scans, and updated my gfx drivers but to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do?
gfx card is: NVIDIA GeForce 6200
tried the cccp link ds provided but I could only find one codec to uninstall and it dosent seem to work someone plz help

just download videolan from videolan.org and play your videos in that. Should be a nice simple solution... |

Only possibility then is a graphics driver problem, as far as I can see. Try installing the latest graphics drivers.

Do you have 2 monitors connected or enabled by any chance? on my card I have a theatre mode where the application is visible on the primary monitor but shows no video, which is shown full screen on the secondary monitor.

I imagine it could be a problem with overlay settings or the like. Is there an option in VLC to use or not use overlays for playback? I know there's one in Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic.

Its an option in preferences... not that hard.

Only thing I could find in prefrences is a logo overlay

Settings > Preferences > Video > "Overlay Video Output". ---

Treid playing the vedioes with the overlay off (was on by default) and it didnt improve
