Maybe if these ever get put into the game, they will have an upgrade to their engines that allow them to MWD back to the carrier. I doubt it though.
Apparently, the fighter pilots are a pampered and spoiled lot with a really, really good union. They specifically have it in their labor agreement that they only have to endure the crushing G's from an MWD engine once per sortie. After they have engaged a target, they know that they can easily and comfortably amble back to the carrier without using the unfair-to-worker MWD to return. Even if the carrier is under severe attack and needs to flee...the union pilots consider that to be management's problem.
Seriously, CCP, this has been a problem since the damned things were put into the game. How about a little code nudge to fix it? Or, at the very least, least a federal mediator that will hold those crooked pilots' feet to the plasma.

Y'see, some people just shouldnt fly expensive ships, as they dont know how the mechanics of it work

Twas a joke. I'm very aware of how fighter mechanics work (or don't...they have a good union too).

Fighters aren't the only ones who don't MWD back. Just about any drone that isn't a standard combat drone won't MWD back to the ship. Repair drones, electronic warfare drones, webbing drones. All of them don't MWD back now granted they aren't nearly as expensive as a fighter but the problem is still there, unless for some reason CCP deigns it necessary to keep these drones from MWDing back to the ship. And it takes a hell of a long time for repair drones to move between 16km.

Oveur said in the last dev blog one of the things they just did is hire someone who's ONLY job will be drones. that's it. And I'm sure that will include fighters. So commend them on allocating a large part of their staff (an entire individual) just to that one persistent problem. And hopefully in a short while (hopefully) we'll see some results.
