Was reading Oveur's blog last night and had a thought about the subject of more limitted warfare with smaller objectives. Think this might be pretty cool...
Take away the big 20 km radius POS shields.
Armor the hell out of the control towers, but take away that big forcefield (or whatever the hell it is) that makes the whole complex invulnerable to everything but a fleet of cap ships.
Yep, put all those structures (guns, hangers, refining modules, shield hardeners, webbers) out in the open. Which means you can take a POS apart in pieces.
Does the POS have all XL guns? Send in the frigs and cruisers to knock 'em out. Does it have a manufacutring line. Hit it fast and hard and then pull out before you take too many losses. Did we just blow up their hanger? Sweet! Look at all the ships that just popped out!
Think about it. This would totally blow the doors off POS warfare in EVE. You could actually RAID a POS. You could go after specific facilities at the POS. And owners would have to be real careful about planning for a variety of assaults, not just the dreads. Heck, you might even have to scramble small ships to come to it's defense from time to time.
Oh, I know this creates all sorts of balance issues, but if they could figure it out it.... to actually be able to raid a POS with a group of small ships would just kick ass!

right now (AFAIK) tracking doesn't apply to POS turrets.

Not to shore about removing the force feild on its own as it makes it very hard to defence 23/7.
Possibly able to disrupt modules so that they off line and have to be reset by a player.
Or the damage done by the POS will need to be upped to balance out the risk as it fairly cheap to attack a POS if you only need to raid it.
I agree with the idea that POS need to be changing so that you do not need a fleet of capital ships to harm its production.
However the costs to attack need to be balanced against the costs to setup and run a POS.

imo people should be able to board the POS sentrys and use them like a ship only stationary. this would give the newbs to a corp or the industrial characters something to do that helps the POS rather then run and hide if they dont have many combat skills. not to mention Sentry guns on Vent would be amazing.

Why not have electromagetic or other types of storms that depress POS defenses for a certain amount of time by lets say 50% for 10 minutes. Would make gameplay more dynamic.

I actually think the ability to board the defenses of the POS and take over manual control of them is a fantastic idea.

Have to agree - this would be pretty cool.

We just mentioned it in gang (were killing a POS) and yes, mannable turrets we thought would be a great idea.
Get corpies to jump into turrets, and you could open up a new skill tree with turret skills for range, damage, refire rate etc. It would certainly allow for much more tactical fighting around a POS, and just more fun. It would encourage people to fight to defend it too.
