I would put this in New Character QnA, but it really seems to be far from a basic "beginner level" question. It was a judgment call.
Since EvE is the mother of all open ended games, I have several goals I want to complete before giving it all up with this game. One of the more long term goals (well, this is my 2nd month, mind you) is to get a full set of pirate +3 implants (personally, I choose 'snake', but for the purposes of the question, any will suffice).
I'm not really asking for help for my character, as much as trying to stimulate conversation, and learn from it. So here's the question.
You wake up trapped in a room with a door sealed shut. You have full internet access, a nice compy, a means of lifesupport, and a note from your captors. You will be held prisoner until you secure one full set of +3 pirate implants. You are forced to start completely over, today, with EvE. No friends from real life, no contacts from your other character. (but of course, you can join a corp). Nothing carries over from your past EvE persona, cept your knowledge of how the universe works.
In summarized form... describe your steps for earning your freedom (IE - getting the implants in game, like any n00b might, ... not through calling for help, or being MacGuyver or anything) - and how soon each step takes. Would you escape faster through buying them? Ratting? LP? Cosmos's?
Hey, it's something to talk about. :)

Edited by: Beef Hardslab on 12/01/2007 19:14:50 Be good at surviving in 0.0, and get out and do the pirate missions.
Or, again be good at surviving in 0.0, and be incredibly lucky, and rat 23/7 until you get them all. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

I'd turn to scamming pretty early on tbh.

Ok, I'm necro-ing this thread because (1) we have too much privateer talk goin' on. And (2) while the answers I got were fine... I'm not going to even dabble in scamming.
So, I reopen the question/hypothetical situation detailed above. Only now, "no scamming". Thanx.
Also, it might be fun to pose these hypotheticals about other items/ships/etc. See how creative we can get. Something to debate about.

I'd get a few donations to get up to a mil or two, and then trade T2 items. Might take me 3-4 weeks to get the cash, at most.

Find a good deal on a BPC item that is in demand. 10-20 runs. The first few runs you will have to mine the low end minerals yourself. You sell 20 items and you should have the cash to just buy off the market.
About the best bet though would be countless hours of repeating missions.
Free-form Professions, ensure no limetations on professions. Be a trader, fighter, industialist, researcher, hunter pirate or mixture of them all.

The fastest and best way would be in station trading, but this has more to do with out of game skills than ingame skills. You would of course need starting capital, at least 5 million.
Another way would be..
1. Make Achura character with 3/9/9/9/9 attributes
2. Do tutorial missions in a Condor, get the +1 implant and sell it. Then keep doing missions. End of the first day buy Cruiser skillbook and an Osprey.
3. Mine in lowsec until you've got skills and ISK for a Ferox. Sell Osprey, goto 0.0 region and kill battleship spawns. Soon upgrade to a Drake and finally once you have 3-4m skillpoints a Raven.
4. By then you'll want to haul secure cans out to your system to make ammo caches aswell as cans to store the good loot in. Keep up ratting in a Raven for a few weeks and you'll reach your target.
5. Buy snake set
6. FREEEEDOM!

Wow. Surprised how many here are confirming what I'm going for. DS, you already said your estimated timeframe - I was wondering if Roshan or Nir would like to add that?

With being a mission runner/manufacture. about 4 weeks. Loot and salvage all you can, recycle, and then buy what is needed to manufacture off of a BPC. You can save up to 20 million on BS builds just off of not buying or mining low end minerals.
It took me three months, four hours a day, 4-5 days a week to fill several Station containers of named loot, and stuff. I sold off alot at newbie systems, kept some. Total cash on hand after I got fed up with missions 450million ISK. I also had almost a complete collection of T1 ships for my race, (T2 and capital ships had not come out yet).
Free-form Professions, ensure no limetations on professions. Be a trader, fighter, industialist, researcher, hunter pirate or mixture of them all.

7. Be really happy until the next day when you get podded and lose your hard earned implants
