Edited by: NeoWhill on 14/01/2007 02:32:18 Hi all,
I've started playing Eve and think its awesome. I noticed that whenever I go afk for approx 4-5mins I get disconnected. I have absouletly no other issues. I never get disconnected when playing, no matter what I do - just when I go afk.
The reason this is a problem is I just started 'exploration' - and I have to sit around 5-6 mins waiting for a scan. If I dont press a key every 2-3 mins I get DC.
This happens on both my two computers, and both my two accounts. I am behind a Billion ADSL Router - could that be the problem?
Cheers.

my computer is behind 2 routers (well, a DSL router and a NAT server). If I connect through both I get disconnected every 10-15 seconds. If I connect through just the router I can stay online for hours AFK

Try to check your router settings and see if it has any "open tcp connectivity" options, because some routers have the ability to terminate inactive connections.
It may also be possible your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is terminating inactive connections unfortunatly you have very little control over that.
Also check your computer settings that it doesn't power down network connection (or standby the computer) after 5 minutes (power options).

Well it doesnt happen with any other games (WoW, CivIV).
And sometimes when it happens I'm playing on-line poker or surfing the net.
And I checked the router settings - nothing special in there.
Does this happen to anyone else?
What is the normal disconneciton afk time for eve? Is there one?

Neo, I also had frequent disconnecting probs. Someone somewhere explained why it happened and posted sollution: Try to subscribe on help channel. It seems that if no data is transmited connection is lost. Help channel is crowded so data is streaming non stop and you stay connected. This is of course very simplified explanation, but subscription to help channel helped me :) --

Edited by: Overflower on 14/01/2007 16:29:42 I dont know your're specific router but if you can get in to the routers web interface, and the firewall is configurable. If you can add 87.237.38.200 which if the main server's IP to the routers firewall inbound and outbound policys, with any protocol and port allowed, that should do it.
oh and http://adsltech.com isnt for your're router but might help anyway

migwar add that IP to be allowed in and out in you're routers firewall and i suppose it should fix you're problem.

i also lose connection if i sit in one location at peak times on busy days
I have a direct connection to net tho so CANNOT be router based (8mb broadband) and the other thing is it only happens to one of my accounts, account 1 drops every time whilst account 2 remains, (have cleared cache, swapped the launchers (so account 1 goes of account 2 and vice versa) ran 2 clients from one launcher) and it still happens
