Can anyone explain how you actually get to the 0km distance of a hidden exploration space? I hear people say they do it using only comb probes but even with sift probes you'll end up 1000km away or more. What is the method for getting close enough so it actually spawns and you see something?...

PS- And no this is not explained on any guide I've seen. The best anyone says is "Step one: use probes, Step Two: ..., Step Three: Make your 0km bookmark!"

basically its all chance based now keep repeating the scan and eventually you'll get there but at 1000km, you might want to consider getting in a ceptor and using your directional scanner

need astrometrics pinpointing skill basically 4au thro to 0.5au then subskills to narrow search results

on the range... yes its chance based.. so use the nearest location u got from the probes so far and retry with the pro which range is next to ours if u have a signal and still have time on ur probes warp to it and make a bm. then restart the analyses in hope of a point more in range

NEW complexes do spawn if you enter the grid. Before this, no complex is there.

hey hey
1) drop multispec - gets the specific type 2) drop (specific type QUESTS)
open the new solarsystem map and drop quests at enough planets to cover all of them. you can plan where to drop them better using the map but make sure every planet/moon is covered by a probe
3) scan for the signature again (using all probes at once) 4) warp to result and BM
its random so you need to keep rescanning to get a result with a warpable distance. be carefull of your deviation and try to remember how close you are. this is because some scans get closer and some get further so if you warp to 20k km and your next scan is 50k km away then your warping away from it.
scan with quests a couple of times to get a decent deviation best to get under 1au accruacy so you can then move to better probes.
4) destroy all the probes at your BM and drop the next best probe for your deviation. if your under 1 au then drop 2au's etc etc.
range <-- probe --> range
5) keep scanning and warping closer and BM'ing as you get lower deviations 6) when your within the next probe range then you can destroy the probes and drop a new probe. 7) when your deviation is around 200km then you should be able to warp to it and see it on your overview
PROBES :
Quest: 4au <--- Probe ---> 4au Pursuit: 2au <--- Probe ---> 2au Comb: 1au <--- Probe ---> 1au Sift: .5au <--- Probe ---> .5au
cant remember how far 1au is but you can look it up in the forums :)
Try that. there is a better more technical guide about as well. but certainly scan with quests a few times to get the best deviation you can. the randomness of the deviations is a gimp. also knock off some levels of the new skills to help with the deviation and scan strength.

if u plan on making it a full time career take the time to train up cov ops and also the astrometrics sub skills to 4 then 5

Yup, the pinpointing and strength skills make a difference. Usually 1000km is enough as it lands you on grid. or, you can rescan until you get within this number.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 14/01/2007 11:36:58 Think the accuracy also depends on the strength of the signal, at least that's how it seems to me, because once I probed a megathron that was very close. I warped to 0 and decloaked, because I almost crashed into that Megathron. It was an insane accuracy for a 3AU probe.
So if I'm right destroying the old sift and putting another sift on that 1000km spot should give you a high signal strength and a high chance to land within the grid next time. But I'd improve the skills anyway.

Edited by: Frederick Lyrus on 14/01/2007 12:43:27 A correct flavour short range exploration probe closer than it's maxiumum distance to the site has a reasonably good chance of getting you a 0km accuracy even if it's maximum deviation is 1000km. There's a complicated formula for it but accuracy is mostly a function of signal strength.
That said, you don't need it. Exploration sites are mostly if not completely deadspace areas. You get within a 1000km of where the devs want you to warp in and the deadspace mechanics will put you right there.

I have gotten a signal deviation of 546 km with sift probes. I still needed to burn another probe in order to narrow it down find the location. So, keep trying.
