Have read som small hints about being able to fit a mobile refinery and /or factory to an Indy...
Whats the word on this?

Hm, are you sure about that? That would be quite nice, but i donŠt believe there will be an ability to fit in a refinery into a Indu. Hmm, who knows Carpe Diem |

The way i've seen the Devs talk about mobile refineries etc. it seems that it's going to be some kind of deployable object that you carry with you out there and then deploys - creating a micro-station--

Yeah, thats possible. But those mobile things will be very expensive. So if the enemy shots it down bevore you can pack it back into your indy, its quite sour. Carpe Diem |

Hmmm well...
I was thinking about this and to me it seemed like a module you carry in the cargo of an indy and then use as its in...
The reason why i think this is because indys have wasted stats...
Massive cpu power...and what do you do with it? Nada, nothing, zip...
At best you can fit a miner1 onto your indy...wich takes up 60 cpu...most just put a small weapon on it wich takes up even less...
Nothing justifies the 650cpu indys have...hence i believe the future will bring some high cpu modules for use with indy...possibly one of them will be the refinery
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Got a 280mm howitzer on mine..:)
Seriously...from the meager information i have been able to find it seems the modules would be something you put in a slot in your indy....
And that doesn't seem impossible considering the aforementioned overkill in cpu..
Any devs care to give us a hint?..;)

My Indy is equipped with one Mining Laser, one MicroWarp Drive and four Reactor Control Units. I'm amble to safely mine 0.0 systems in my Indy with this setup.
I use up a heft amount of CPU with this rig and am thankful for all the CPU available.

What is a reactor control unit?
Any devs care to elaborate on original question?

It would seem to make sense that they would draw upon a popular movie like Alien for an idea like this. The Nostromo was a huge mining platform towed through space.

I have been told my Horder indi looks a bit like the Nostromo. A moble refinary would be ideal for mining with friends in them "out of the way" non-empire systems, FAR less stuff to haul back.
Now if yas dont mind there is a strange alien life-form lose on my ship.

A reactor control unit is a module that gives 10% bigger power core and requires 20 CPU to be fitted. Though I'm guessing there are different kinds, some give more and some give less.
There are supposed to be stations that are mainly refining platforms. Not sure how that works. There was also rumors about some kind of refining module that could be fitted on indys, but I haven't heard anything about it, or if it is even going to be implemented.

I'm pretty sure mobile refinery modules has been in-game, in the earlier beta phases. But the ore situation was very different then and I guess they are holding them back until they have balanced them properly. |

Check the dev chat I believe it was brought up there. Not sure where to find it though.

There will be several things like this.
Refinery Platforms will be like mini stations. Not sure if you'll be able to move them or not (though I would assume so).
Refining Modules will allow industrials to refine minerals on the spot.
Of course, none of this is set in stone until the devs let us use them. But this is what I've heard. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

for god sake you guys play on chaos and join fightbclub corp on there and you can try the mobile refinerys yourself but they suck they turn out with 5/5 refine eff at 8% of normal refine in a factory. fyi

Edited by: Jake Solnich on 29/10/2003 08:30:44 Yah I was just about to say this is old news.
The Devs have been talking about this for months and we have all been patiently waiting.
Word is they might and I stress the word "might" introduce them in next patch.
I believe TomB had said in one of the recent CSM's that the asteroid balance would be fixed at the same time the refining platforms would be introduced.
Despite all the promises no firm ETA has been made.
