Hi guys,
I've been running the eve client on an evalutation copy of vista for the last 3 months now. It's all been working fine till the other day where the client won't load up... Click on the eve icon to open the initial game you get the Revelations load screen come up before it asks for user and password but then shuts down, no error, isssues or nothing. So i thought time for a new install then. Downloaded the client again from the site, all is good so far. Then i attempt the install... hmm, the eve installer after a few seconds, the first couple of files seem to be fine but then an error message comes up... "Error opening file for writing: C:\Program files(x86)\CCP\eve\res.stuff" And i have the options of abort, ignore or retry... as u do i go for retry first, but doesn't work of course so long shot and ignore..... same msg pops up with C:\etc etc etc\resCOSMOS.stuff...... and so on and so forth through the installation. So i don't have a clue what to do now and whats wrong as to why is wont install. PS i've deleted the initial download of the new client again and downloaded it again just to check, and didn't works again either, same issues. Can someone please help as i'm missing out of valuable eve time argh Thanks in advance

I would suggest that you dual boot your computer with windows xp and windows vista. Windows Vista has not been offically released yet so I doubt that CCP is going to support it yet.

I had a problem very similar to this using windows XP on a machine I had run EVE on in the past. Eve would install and would start up but immediately crash.
First, I would suggest using a download manager to get the install file. Getright is a very good one.
The way that I fixed my issue was that I downloaded ad-aware SE, and Spybot S&D. After running both of these and finding multiple spyware in the computer, I started up EVE and eureka!
You may have already tried the spyware thing, but if not it's owrth a shot to spend about 30 mins on it.

It used to work for me also with vista. Now it does'nt, dies after revelation screen. Fix for me is to run the exe file in bin folder prior running the main shortcut in main folder.

Edited by: Dawson Blue on 14/01/2007 21:59:04 Does Vista have an option to emulate XP? If so try that, i beleive it is right click the Eve icon, then goto properties and see if there are emulation options. Also doesn't Vista use DirectX 10?
