All the ships in eve have a naming convention according to what race they are.
Gallente ship names are from Greek mythology. Amarr ship names are loosely based about religious, spiritual or general mythological words or names. Caldari ship names are mostly all bird names, as well as some other animals such as Scorpion, Raptor, Leviathan etc. Minmatar... are a bit more difficult, judgeing only by there capital ships (and some T2 ship names I checked) they have something vaguely to do with Norse mythology.
So... that leads us to the Obelisk (Gallente Freighter) which is an Amarr name in my opinion, and the Charon (caldari freighter) who in greek mythology was a son of Nyx (or night)
Nyx also being the mother of Moros, Thanatos, Hypnos, and Eris (among others, she got around a bit Erebus was the father of course.)
So Nyx, Moros, Thanatos are some of the Gallente capital ships, so that means Caldari stole our freighter name! (Charon)
Providence – the Amarr freighter sounds about right, Fenrir is definitely Minmatar, Obelisk is clearly not a Caldari name so basically...
Caldari freighter doesn’t have a name. Gallente freighter has the wrong name. I learnt something today.
Theres actually a few more swapped and/or wrong names, but I’m not geeky enough to list them, wonder if I should bug report this.

A lot of the gallente ship names are named that for how they sound. Megathron has no real background, but it sounds gallente. So does Obelisk. It's got that rounded, large, natural sound. And imo it sounds perfect for its hull, which is quite the sexy ship might I add.
And Minmatar have to do with natural wrath and violence as well as blade weaponry so far as I've seen. -----

a lot of them do fit the pattern
Ares Astarte (Astraeus) Charon (oh wait thats caldari) Deimos Erebus Eos (Eros) Helios Hyperion Moros Nyx Thanatos
Eris isent on the list, so there are more than likeley others thare are greek mythology related but not on the list, and Caldari stick to the nameing convention more than gallente for the T1 stuff, but yes there also a lot of odd ones as well as a few that should be on anouther races ship.
I think its safe to say the more uber it is the more likely it is to fit the naming convention.

Obelisk sexy?
I usually refer to it as the 'fat ugly blimp'.

...and Astarte is the levantine version of Aphrodite, also connected to the phenician's Ishtar.
The name doesn't go well with a Brutix hull imho.
