I agree that in game bids are messing this up, but to be fair to anyone who chooses to hide their reserve... A reserve is supposed to be hidden.
Example...
Starting bid 10 billion
Reserve 15 billion
There's no point bidding anything less than 15 billion, yet I see people bid 11 billion in auctions like this. You haven't met the reserve! You won't get it for less than that if the auction holder actually sticks to his reserve (which is the point of a reserve - it's a figure the seller will not sell for less than)
Reserves are supposed to be hidden. If you are going to make your reserve public, it might aswell be exactly the same as the starting bid.

This has been gone over ad infinitum.
Reserve. A player WILL sell if reserve is met. He MAY sell if it is not met.
