Yep. People do it all the time, especially for mining.

I think the following is what is required:
Make copy of the EVE folder - and the copy is simply a copy-paste, that should work.
Then just run 2 different accounts on the two different EVE-folders (executables). -- V.H. |

While not nessecary it is better to run two seperate client installs to run multiple accounts.
To make something clear you can run more then one instance of Eve ONLY if it is more then 1 account. You can't run the same account - main, alts etc - in two instances.

You can also run two accounts from the same instance (and files on your harddisk), *if* both accounts will use all the same settings.
I do that, myself. Note that depending on your machine, you may have to turn down/off some graphics or audio.
In my case, if both accounts get into battle (or run a mission), I sometimes get audio problems. And if I restart an account, Eve will warn me that it has to use software audio, since it doesn't have 12 audio hardware channels left to use. Bummer, since I'm using a new Creative sound card, not relying on the mboard one...

On this topic, i downladed the free trial, liked the game and upgraded to a full subscription. I wanted to test out how I like a dual-box setup, so I made a second trial account. It won't let me run more than one instance on the same box - it tells me
"While we appreciate your enthusiasm to try EVE, we would also appreciate if you could limit yourself to using a single trial account at a time."
I copied the folder as suggested, but no-go. Is this occurring because I am using both a trial account and a real one, or because I did not buy a "retail copy" of the game? My understanding was that the client was free.
Your advice please.

You can run two paid accounts at the same time on the same computer. But if you are on a trial account you can only have the one session open. You cannot run a second session on that computer neither with a trial and a paid account or two trial accounts. Once you decide you like the game you are welcome to create two paid accounts and run both at the same time.

Unfortunatly when CCP introduced the trial accounts a lot of folks jumped onto the bandwaggon of getting a trial account just to support their main account, for example having a free Industrail pilot to support a miner digging in high sec. Hence why trial accounts are severly nerfed and limited to the only active instance of Eve running off one computer at a time

While your description is in the right vein, your example is flawed, as trial accounts have not been able to train the industrial skill for quite some time. I think the biggest problem was that the changes to the character creation system allowed people to make very effective suicide alts quite easily. That seems to me to be the biggest reason. Would be too tempting for some people to make a little 'death squad' of caldari missile pilots and start suicide popping everything they can in highsec. While this is still possible for people with multiple computers, the change does make it a little harder. -=^=-

There all fixed. Yes, you can't have an Industrial pilot on a trial account, but you could easily train up an Osprey pilot and have him working Miner II's within a couple days. So he got his example backwards as to which account had the hauler and which account(s) had the miner. He was still right in principle.
