Edited by: THEMwhatSTOLEDmyPANTSdie on 15/01/2007 19:21:05 Do you run into range issues when you use torps for lvl 4's? Do you have to use cruises to avoid slowboating to torp range?

First I was just going to come here to steal someone's pants, but now I'm scared.
Torp range is a bit beyond 50kms, but if you want, fit a target painter: Those have infinite range (well, up to your max locking range really) and manage to aggro stuff nicely enough. Or a gun. Same thing, but high slot.
If the targets are within drone range (which will be shorter than Torp range), I like to use my painter to aggro them since drones will take that cue - almost like a real targetting laser for guided bombs would.
Having said that, I'll second Mikal Drey: Go for CMs. --

No they don't.
But.... If you just want to aggro stuff their range doesn't matter. You can aggro rats 100km away even with a small electron blaster.

Yes they do.
I'll admit however that the efficiency at infinite range is rubbish - just the same as with a gun, surprise, surprise.
Seeing as I was trying to get targets aggroed, that wasn't my original point I guess. I even added "guns", but thanks for fleshing out the idea. --

It really depends on the mission mate...
Missions like the blockade are torp missions - loads of battleships and a few cruisers and frigs. In these cases torps rock. You need medium->good skills in all missile range skills, in order to get a 70ish range out of them
Missions like the Assault and the score and all that where you get 3-4 battleships and a load of frigs and cruisers are better suited to cruise. Just don't go to worlds collide or another mission with lots of strong-tank high-resist cruisers or you gonna wish you'd never trained the damn skill (exaggerating here, but HAC's are very difficult to kill with torps)
