The following is a small quality of life improvement request:
It would be wonderfully useful to be able to assign certain types of overview objects to Freeze Panes. For those who don't know, a Freeze Pane is a line on a spreadsheet that does not move even when you scroll up and down.
It is very common in EVE to have a full overview and it would therefore be incredibly useful to be able to assign e.g. Stargates to a Freeze Pane. That way you could scroll through hundreds of objects while always having all the Stargates in system visible at the top of your overview.
For bonus points:
- Enable multiple object types to be frozen at the same time and create a menu to determine a separate sort order for items in the Freeze Pane
- Allow Freeze Pane objects to be filtered by other attributes, not just object type e.g. Corp/Alliance Members, +5/+10 Contacts or specific Character Names...
- Easily accessible On/Off Freeze Pane toggle button at the top of the overview window
I realise that comparing EVE to a spreadsheet on the official forums is a risky move, but I firmly believe that this is one aspect of spreadsheets that would genuinely make EVE a better game.

Yes, totally, do it.
I'd love to be able to customize these just as much as the overview itself, letting me do stuff like have all reds in the freeze pane but keeping blues and neuts on the normal one.
Or maybe putting drones in the freeze pane when I'm in a dessy on "anti-drone" duty.
Maybe I'm a logi that wants to keep all my blues in the freeze pane, but keep reds on the normal overview so I can get an idea of when that one ceptor is making a beeline for me.
Maybe I'm in a Noctis with a freeze pane on cans, with wrecks in the normal overview.
Maybe I'm a combat pilot that wants to have a pane for anything inside my optimal...

Are there any obvious drawbacks or negatives that I have completely missed?

I'm really struggling to see how anyone could be against this idea to be honest.

Sort by distance is your friend. If you have a very, very cluttered grid, a quick click and stargates are "on top" stuff on grid is down out of sight. Once you selected the stargate, click again and now you can see everything on grid.

With increased grid sizes comes more clutter, and need for better controllability of the overview. I would see this as beneficial feature.

[Festive bump goes here]
Quite a lot of people would actually find this really useful if anyone in Iceland is reading :)
