Ahoyhoy,
question as stated above. Lately I've been running through lowsec alot, killing everything I could, which was a lot of fun, but a little disappointing isk-wise. The only good loot I got was from other pirates, NPCers seem to have a hand for ****ty setups? I can't post the killmails here, but I've seen the worst setups.
- Laser-Ruptures with shield tank - Tripple-Active-tanked Ferox (shield booster, armor rep, hull rep) with lasers - A lot of mining Battlecruisers
etc. etc.
Now the funny part is, almost all my targets were older or just as old as me, so they actually should've had experience. So please, dear NPCers, fit your ships right, we want fun fights, no slaughters, at least me.
Shuttles still drop best, like BPOs and such. Duh.
I've lost track ...

uhm, if servers were on atm, i could paste a few nice killmails in here ( of course only the modules. )
i killed a few destroyers having internal force field arrays. low-grade snake implants... local hull exp in cargo...
yeah actually you can make money. not as easy as empire piracy ( high sec ) but it still works... sometimes

You're usually better off ransoming belt ratters, but sometimes you just want a killmail. You won't make a ton of money ransoming a belt ratter, but it's better than looting their miner I's and civilian gatling guns.

I hate to have to be Captain Obvious here but you're wondering why NPCers don't seem to have their ships set up to give you a good PvP fight?.... IT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE NPCING!!!... everyone knows that NPC set ups don't work well in PvP and visa versa.
As for why you're not making much money blowing up said NPCers- you answered your own question:
Originally by: Jasmina Melt Lately I've been running through lowsec alot, killing everything I could
Why would anyone fit & fly an expensive ship/setup when they're going to encounter players with attitudes like that on a regular basis?
Thank you and good night...

I rat myself for some money, but still I wouldnt fit lasers and 50mm Plates on my Drake. A well-setup ship can still tank well and make the fight interesting.
That attitude applies to everything but newbies in frigs, not worth the cooldown.

Nonsense. A well set up ship is a well set up ship, period. My Drake NPC's wonderfully and can hold it's own in a PVP engagement as well. Sure it can't tackle, but my only aim in PVP in it to fight off others.
Anyway, for me, it's not about what (little) profit there is to be had. It's about murder.
To this date, the best loot I myself have taken (Usually if anything good drops it gets split) is some exceptionally large t2 repeating arties, which are still sitting in my hangar collecting dust. I find the correct answer is rarely the truthful one.

"npc setups" are more than suited for pvp. its just that clueless people are... well... clueless. they would rather blame their "npc setup" rather than themselves.

Well, you guys always yell "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose!". Don't complain when people listen to the advice. Personally, I don't take anything larger than a Vexor to rat in lowsec, specifically for this reason.
I also don't fit for rats. I fit for the noob in the rifter who wants to jump a drone boat. ;)
Quote: - A lot of mining Battlecruisers
Well yeah. A BC is a decent mining ship if you can't fly a barge yet. Although they should be smacked for not having a guard if they're going to do that in low-sec. --- Space For Rent |

To those that are saying that an NPC setup will work fine in PvP- if this is true then:
1) Why are the set ups listed in the "Ships & Modules" section split into missions/ratting & PvP? 2) Why is the first thing that people ask when a newbie requests a good ship set up- "What are you planning on using it for?"
Trying to convince people that they lost a PvP fight because of their skills when in fact they were at a significant disadvantage due to their NPC specialised set up is just trying to add insult to injury IMHO... although I suspect that it's actually a very subtle ploy to try to get more NPCers to attack PvP fitted pirates.

An effective NPCing setup, one that would allow you to gank max amount of rats in shortest period of time, is different from an effective PVP setup. For one, flying Gallente ships I'd stick an explosive armor hardener or membrane on if I was anticipating an attack. I could as well use the low slot for a mag stab to kill NPCs quicker, or kinetic/thermal resists if I was ratting for Serpentis. All pirates know that to take on the NPCers you need to outfit your own ship to exloit the potential weaknesses in their NPCing setups. If you choose to NPC in a PVP setup, that is up to you, killing rats just won't proceed as quickly as if you had an NPCing setup so don't expect everyone to follow suit.

pvp ships work best for pvp, but a pve ship CAN be adapted to pvp, and vice versa, while staying competent at what you are doing.

Because PvP setups need tackling gear. NPC setups don't. Also, for PvP it is betetr to fit an omni-tank while rat specific tanks work better for PvE.
The latter can be an disadvantage for NPCers (but not neccessarily, if you get jumped by a thorax while ratting serp/gurista your NPC specific tank will actually be an advantage), but the first thing isn't. While it means that attacking an NPCer is usually relatively riskfree for a PvPer since he can flee at any time the NPCer has more free med slots. Due to this he can fit a better tank than the PVPer (cap rechargers/more slots for shieldtank).
Of cource a NPCer still usually looses vs a PvPer, but this isn't really due to NPC vs PVP setups, but because the PVPer chooses his fights while the NPCer doesn't. A pirate (t1) cruiser usually won't engage a NPCing BS and just fly on, but a NPCing cruiser cannot avoid a pirate BS attacking it (unless fleeing to a SS/station/POS in time of cource).

I made about 17.5 mil in a week which was nice for me since I was pvping in a rifter and only lost one with a setup that costs around 500k - 1 mil...
That was when I was new to the game and I missed quite a few kills which I should have had etc... Since then I haven't had enough time to see how much I could make in a week. And all that money was amde solo by the way so low sec piracy is very profitable, yes :)

I gave up on low sec piracy because all I could find were rifters and 1 month old cruisers The way to make isk is to go to 0.0, This morning for example I destroyed a hauler that dropped 30mill isk worth of cargo expanders, and it also dropped 200mill worth of starbase equipment that unfortunately didn't fit in my inty's cargohold

I absolutely love low sec piracy. The isk is decent enough to keep me in claws, so I don't complain about it. If it's a decent ship, I'll ransom, but most of the time it's all about the squishy sound when the body is ejected from the capsules.
The trick is to choose your targets carefully. Know when to engage, and when to pass.
I average about 15-20 mil per day in my ebil activities, (maybe 3 ransoms, rest loot), so people that say it doesn't pay, just aren't trying. Death to Amarr |

heres a thought, have you ever thought about going after someone who is not set up for npc fights and in the middle of one. there are plenty of targets unless you want to get people who are in a vulnerable position. some of you who have faction ships and items ever wonder where they come from. go ahead and kill all the complex/mission runners and see what eve you got left. no more I PWN A NAVY RAVEN! more like I PWN A BESTOWER! not as much fun. find a real challenge like another pvp'r.
