What gives? There is hardly any on the market and with its 2 components silicon and industrial fibres costing about 350 a unit Theres a crap tonne of profit to be made. buy orders at 9.5k a unit give approximately 55% return and sell orders are at 11.5k and upwards returning nearly 100% profit!

Import / Export tax @ High-Sec rates drops those profits to what? |

Still pretty astronomical even if you import/export in highsec. Better to do it in low though but thats always to personal taste.
What other product shows such good returns for the investment? |

Even with the hi-sec tariffs on importing P1 from the market and exporting P2, you currently get about a 34% margin on making Microfiber Shielding. Based on an average of the top 4 markets.
Silicon = 487 Chiral Structures = 707 Microfiber Shielding = ~14.250 ISK/u
But there's also some big swings in the market value across the regions, so you'd have to run your own numbers.
(P1a + 25 + P1b + 25) * 40/5 = input cost per unit (P2 market price - 900 - (1.5% of market price for broker/sales)) = net export value per unit
For Sinq Laison:
(590+25 + 409+25) * 40/5 = 8392 (13745-900 - 206) = 12639 margin: +4247 ISK/u (50.6%)
Chirals are a lot cheaper in Sinq vs Forge as of the overnight prices. Which helps boost the profit margin of making that particular P2 from P1.

Offhand (assuming you're in hi-sec, buy P1, make P2 and pay roughly average prices across the four market hubs):
Biocells Construction Blocks Coolant Enriched Uranium Mechanical Parts Microfiber Shielding Polyaramids Supertensile Plastics Transmitter Viral Agent
For making P3 from P2:
Cryprotectant Solution Industrial Explosives Vaccines
For a lot of stuff, you're better off making P3 from P1, or P4 from P2, which skips a tier of tariffs. |

you put chiral structures for your calculation . it should be industrial fibers which cost half the price so profits are considerably more |

Doh! I need more industrial fibers in my diet, I guess. |

Microfiber Shielding, Polyaramids, and Silicate Glass are the three P2s that require importing at least 1 P1 good from another planet to make. There is no way to make any of these on a single planet. This limits the number of producers.
(My private chart says that there is about 50%, 100% and -35% profits on each respectively. I'm not sure why the glass is currently a looser in the P1->p2 factory planet looser category.) |

Silicate glass is an old NPC good, so there's still significant stockpiles of it out there. http://eve-marketdata.com/price_check.php?step=Show&type_id=3697®ion_id=10000002&type=history
(Anything with a history prior to June 2010 used to be sold by NPCs.)
