Almost every high-end card made since the Radeon 7000 has had two outputs. Every card I've owned in the last 5 years has boasted this feature, includin my current 7600gt. The decision to buy new monitors was easy; last night I hopped on Craigslist and bought an identical pair for $70. they aren't lame either, they're 21 inch flat Trinitrons and I'm running Eve @ 3200x1200. It's very very beautiful, but I feel this game is SCREAMING for dualview options.
I've seen a couple of threads regarding this, but most went nowhere and I'm not sure any are currently active. I'd like to organize some ideas on the benefits dual monitors could bring to the UI, and a cohesive plan for implementation. Given this incentive, any serious gamer would find it easy to procure a second monitor.
Different people would use a second monitor in different ways. I think the best thing to do is have a drop box for several options in the Graphics menu. There could be a small section that says, "Second monitor" with options like "map" or "camera offset".
Map: You know the F11 map? The one that takes up the right side of your screen? What if that took up the background of the secondary monitor, and you could clutter most of your GUI there as well. Main screen would have the 3rd person ship view, and the main HUD. So, one screen for interacting with your ship and one for managing everything else.
Camera Offset: Exactly as it is now, just offset the viewpoint so it's centered on one monitor.
I will try and sketch out some JPGs later.
PS. I know there are other "dual monitors plz" threads, but none seemed to really address the issue, or get any Dev attention. How EFFING cool would it be to spread this stuff out over multiple monitors??? it'd be just like being in the real thing! ohhh it makes me gushy inside.

oh yes please, thinking about getting a dual monitor, but as i get it now you basicly see half of your ship on one side and the other half on the other monitor...
It would indeed be nice to have, maybe 2 monitors centered on the same account/character. So you could zoom out max on one and watch the pretty views on the other, maybe fly wit all your maps/chatscreens/market/contract/skill/evemail screens open on one monitor, and still be able to see your ship on the other monitor...
I like it

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that! Each screen is like a seperate client, but they're running the same game. Very nice idea.

Edited by: Imhothar Xarodit on 17/01/2007 01:17:28 One option I'd like to see would be, that you can move the central line (ship, ship readouts, module buttons) anywhere from left to right. So you could decide yourself if you want your ship on the left or right monitor and the module buttons would move with it.
So basically, you have a slider in your options menu, where you can offset the x-position of your ships center, relative to your entire view, the bottom ship statistics and module buttons would move with it (you cannot seperate them). Additionally there was an option, if you want your overview+targets on your left or right screen (so it is up to you if you place your cluttering windows on the left or right screen).
From the view of a developer, it isn't really hard to implement and would give great flexibility to effectively use dual monitor setups.
Second, if you select a resolution which the game recognizes as dual-monitor it would enable an option which shows your map on only one of your monitors, so you can fly around and have the map open simultanously. Tehre some features you would like to do without having to open the map (like clearing waypoints e.g. why cant we "clear all waypoints" without the map :( )

If nothing else, this would make an incredible difference. Seems like it should be very easy for the developers to do this in a patch. Is there something we can do to get their attention, or just hope they read this thread? I'm new to Eve and therefore new to CCP :)

Edited by: Vlad Vaviloff on 17/01/2007 10:57:21 Well, it may seem easy to implement to us, but what in reality do we know? That's why some (no matter how small) feedback talk from devs on this topic would be highly appreciated.
It is very funny though to read of really hi-tech features they are implementing now, like ability to walk about stations and how photorealistic avatars will be, and what state-of-the art this technology this is...
Well in comparison with THAT dual monitor functionallity really seems like yesterday's news. But still missed one.
So, dear devs, do we dare to hope? Or is this no more than daydreaming? |

I just added some links to the first post, I'm sure it would have been easy to find more. Basically what I'm trying to show is that a large number of people would benefit from simply sliding the HUD 90 degrees.

Cool, I didn't realize there are so many topics about this here.

What do you mean, "degrees"? We don't need to rotate screen. Ability to slide the HUD and point of view sideways is enough already.

ah, by 90 degrees I meant 1/4 of the horizontal viewspace. not sure if it was the right term or not. we're talking about the same thing.

So, no hope then? And no comments whatsoever?

Would really like something done to add to dual monitor support. Microsoft Flight simulator has a neat feature where you can undock a view and move it to a second screen. This would be ideal for things like the gang options, drones, chat, wallet etc.

Sure it would. It is not a planned feature anywhere nearly soon though. (Evidently)

F10 map on a second screen would make alot less paranoid about setting an autopilot route out of 0.0 when I need to.
It'd just be fairly nice to be able to drag stuff onto more monitors. Perhaps the other option is to allow undocking of panels from the main eve window onto their own monitors as windows in their own right, and then stop eve minimising if it loses focus?
