Low sec Pilots definitely talk a big game. The null sec FC's and members of large corps definitely subscribe to elitism. But the most intimidating are the Doctrine brewers and Ship fitters. They definitely can cloud an eve chat room. |

Meanwhile, you also get a personal email from them naming your mother and sister by name, along with their address, warning you that if you continue to blow up their ships in this game about blowing up ships, they'll be paying your mother and little sister a visit.
While intimidating, it doesn't make me want to quit EVE or even stop shooting them. It makes me want to shoot them more, as a matter of fact, knowing that the cybercrimes division of my local CIB is all over it once I file a report and provide the evidence, along with IP addresses of the emails and the messages sent to my mother.
Otherwise, I'm not intimidate by gameplay. No one should be. It's a game, not a job. You're only going to be intimidated if you do take it too seriously.
wat.
The only way any other player can have access to that kind of data (including your e-mail address) is if you give it to them, or make easy to google search down.
So, explain to us: how did the big bad mean player get your personal e-mail address? |

You'd have to ask them. And if you think those are the only means one can go about acquiring personal information, you are missing some much needed education on the resolve of an internet stalker. You needn't worry about it though, the police had a nice little chat with the folk who did it, and so did a judge.
The point of my post was to call out the kind of person that would do this, over a few pixels, regardless of how they got the information.

The really pathetic thing is people with that kind of resolve & skill could be earning mega-bucks in Private Investigative work, instead of using it to harass & intimidate people & their families over stupid computer game stuff.

Like you being perpetually judgemental of everyone without actually knowing anything about them, but asserting that you know more about them than they do while having little to no self-awareness?
Yah, I'll be over here while you're learning the definition of irony.
