Seeing as they share the same gunnery and support skills, go for both, once you have friggie 5, af to lvl 4 isnt a big hop and would be the first stop for npc'er. Go inty's later on, not exactly a large training time to lvl 4 when you do want to go pvp'ing, and they're as cheap as peanuts.

For NPC'ing exclusively? Definitely the Retribution. Really good armor tank, enough midslots for an AB and a web, and lots of guns. Lots of guns. The Crusader, if set up for tanking, well, I don't think I'll go there, as I haven't actually tried it. But my guess is that it could mission pretty well in lower level missions, and possibly rat, though I'm not sure if it would have enough break a bigger rat's tank...... ______________________/|\_______________________

Edited by: Kano Sekor on 17/01/2007 20:56:18 Ive actually ratted with a crusader in 0.0 it only works against Sansha spawns, although it will take some time to get down those 1.2 mil bs:es for me it took about 8 minutes i think.

Uhhh, you might want to look at that again.
edit: Unless this is reverse documentation. i.e., if it's in the EVE online db it *can't be* true. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I dunno. I really like NPCing with my Crusader. Yes the Retribution can tank better but it doesn't deal damage any better than a Crusader (both have 4 turrets, both get a 5% bonus to small turret damage).
When you remember the Crusader's tank is its speed the Retribution's tank is not so great. With its ability to close faster and escape faster I find the Crusader more to my liking. Add that the Crusader is not sucking cap to run a tank generally.
Your trading a med slot in the Crusader for a low slot in the Retribution. Since the Crusader does not rely on an active tank (speed again) I'd personally rather have that med slot for a webber while NPCing.
I guess it comes down to personal preference but all-in-all I'd say the Crusader is a perfectly viable choice between the two.
Besides....it's a hot looking little ship.

Inties are pure PvP ships. You can't tank them, you can't get decent damage out of them. Assfrigs were designed to rat.

I haven't tried out AF yet due to missing skills, but I really like the Crusader.
The damage it push out is really strong, and going tankwise really ain't important due to your speed when running an AB. I've been down to 0.3 security and haven't had trouble with any spawns yet.
The only problem I mostly face is when dealing with missile mobs over time, but with faction loot it's not so bad. I can imagine it will take ages to bring down a BS npc :-P --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |

The crusader is pure pwn and my favourite ship in the game.
Fastest inty in game smallest sig in game packs a decient punch (I've solo'ed ravens in it(not on this char tho)). Versatile - close range with dual pulse, or fit longer range with medium guns and nano's.
I think I'm going to train amarr frig v...

It hasnt got the highest base speed that belong to the claw i belive. But it lower mass lets it reach high speed while using a MWD.
Meaning fastest inty ----------

deeper insight pls: does this mean crusader reaches its basespeed*mwd multiplier sooner or does this mean that claw never reaches max basespeed*mwd ?

It basicly means that with more mass, the less effect you gain from AB or MWD.
In other words Crusader will have a higher AB or MWD max speed. --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |

Go for both, I've used a crusader for lots and lots of 0.0 ratting, only problem are rats over 1.2mil, meaning they take quite a while to break. Also used a retribution, and it's rezistances and takability are quite nice.

The Crusader is more fragile than the Retribution.
Meaning: both are equally usable for PvE. Whereas the Crusader requires quite some experience and doesnt forgive mistakes. Wrong transversal velocity and too close and your Crusader goes boom. Whereas the Retrbution can take a beating.
On the other hand the Crusader is perfect to make speed records in mission completion up to lvl 3.
So basically: 1. start with a Retribution to learn how to handle missions with a Frigate. 2. Continue with the Crusader later on.

Retribution is megafun for lvl 3 missions
buy one, fit it with t2 pulse, and a passive tank ('cept the rep of course, you know what I mean ), and an AB and kick arse!
