I'm an former Eve player from back in the beta/early release days. I left the game originally because it felt like it was a part time job. I join back on every once in a while because I believe in what the game could/should be. Everytime I join back on I find I quit for the same reasons. The game is just simply SO time consuming. extended fairly uneventful battle, to spend 8 minutes flying around collecting loot. I'd like to be able to play on a casual basis, but as is I find I just can't invest the time, especially when I just don't see the exciting reward. I'm not whining, I just feel like I must be missing something... Is there an easy way to collect loot and get cool missions etc? Please help.

It's still the same. Sorry, but EVE _IS_ a time consuming game. You can definately play it as your time allows, but if you're looking for fast paced, non-stop action, with instant gratification, then it's just not going to work out for you.
If looting is an issue though, tractor beams help with that, plus you could always make your ship go faster.
Anyway, if that's your only concern, then there are definately ways around it, but yeah, EVE takes time...
Hope you continue to play, for it's a great game. (though definately not without it's faults. ;))

Well the addition of Tractor Beams has helped a lot in the loot collection. 20KM range on the smalls, but they havent seeded the medium and larges yet. As far as better agents, there isnt too much aside from grinding and the social skills.
You might also want to try PVP, either from the pirating end, or from the 0.0 territory guarding. Lots of people will say either of those is more exciting than the missions. So perhaps try a bit of both, see if you can find the part of EVE that you like the most

u had better start handing youre stuff out again the time consuming element hasnt changed much

Shoot other players, not NPCs. Less time consuming, more awesome.

Hmm.. I play eve because it's NOT time consuming compared to other games i have played.
I play for an hour on weeknights.. and a few hours on weekends.. I have a good time, make ok isk, and my skills keep on training...
