Edited by: Project2502 on 18/01/2007 04:36:52 I'm about as mad as I have ever been with this game.
I put a drone link on my domi. I put a drone nav computer on it. I put three drone omni trackers. I put a drone scope chip rig on it. I have 6 million SP in drones: every drone skill available to level 5 except for the four racial drone skills which are all at level 4.
So, you'd think that I could kick some serious behind with all that.
Well I cant.
I checked the stats on a hobgoblin II using a ZERO skillpoint character, just to see where the base starting point is at.
The important stats were as follows: sheild cap 67 armor hp 144 act prox 1000 acc falloff 2000 tracking speed 2.178 rad/sec max velocity 3360 rate of fire 2.0 sec opt range 1000 damage mod 1.92x sig res 25m orbit velocity 660
I then checked the same drone's stats, in 'docked ship', 'undocked ship', 'undocked with drones deployed' and 'undocked with drones attacking a target' fashion, using my charactor with all the goodies on the domi, and 6 mil in drone skills.
I got the exact SAME results. The same as with a zero skillpoint charactor.
So that means: 1. Racial drone skills are not working, or the 4 levels of 2% damage would show up. 2. Drone durability skill is not working, because the shield, armor and hull hitpoints did not increase. 3. Combat drone operation is not working because drone damage did not increase by 10% per level for 5 levels. 4. Drone navigation skill is not working because the drone velocity did not increase by 5% per level for 5 levels. 5. Drone sharpshooting is not working because the optimal range did not increase by 5% per level for 5 levels. 6. The drone nav computer doesn't work because the drones are going no faster than before. 7. The omnidirectional tracking link is not working because max speed and targeting speed did not increase by 1.2x when I added 1.. or 2.. or even 3 of the units to my midslots. 8. The drone scope rig, which not only took a month to collect the salvage parts to build, but required additional skill purchases and training to use it - which is now plugged into the domi, taking up one of the rig slots, impossible to remove to use later - is not working because the optimal range of the drones did not change at all.
So.. thus far.. we're talking about months and months of training, a whole lot of isk in skills and materials/mods/blueprints.. all to find out that the skills account for nothing at all.
Am I doing something wrong here? Or, are drones THAT nerfed? I never saw this kind of problem before the new patch. It seems all drone skills are worthless - other than those that will allow you to use a certain number of drones or a certain type of drone.
The skills that are available to increase damage/tracking/speed/optimal/range, as well as all of the mods that do the same - just dont seem to be working.
Or is it me?

Its you.
You cant check the stats on your drones with skills/mods in any way. You will always just get the default stats if you pull up the info screen. You just have to do the calculations or shoot a buddy to figure out the difference.
Ill tell you this though, the drones on my Moros do a hell of a lot more than any other ship i or my friends have. So yes, bonuses from skills and modules do work, you just cant see them.

Drone stats are not updated based on your skills when you check info. This is a known bug (or "unintended design feature" as we like to call them) and has been for a very long time.
The skills do work, trust me. You can do some experiments and do the maths yourself if you like.

Edited by: Thews Mortaza on 18/01/2007 04:42:15 I suspect this is more a case of skills/module changes simply don't show up on the drones. Same thing with how certain skills effect rockets/missiles, but the missiles stats don't actually reflect the new values, even though there is a difference in behaviour that reflects the skills working.
EDIT: Wow, it took about 30 seconds to type it out and I was beaten to the punch twice,

one of the devs(I think it was Tux) said it was a bug and would be fixed eventually... I don't recomend holding your breath
as others stated tho, the skills do work, there is a noticable difference in a t1 hvy drone from me in my domi vs my alt in her domi(not using T2's as it ws an unfare compare between the 2)
me - gal BS 5, hvy drones 4, di 5 her - di 4(was 3 when I did the last test), gal bs 1, hvy drones 1 but she's an industrial alt, she's trained for the domi on the days I need to mine and it's to laggy for the covetor

ROFL! I don't believe that a player that was in game for 3 years didnt realize that, so the only explanation is that the character is bought.
Funny how people with such high skills have no freaking clue how to use them since they buy their way

There is a way to see the effects of missile skills. If you check info on your ship while in space, then go under the modules section, then scroll down towards the bottom of the list till you find the missiles themselves, checking info there will show the effects of skills as far as flight time and velocity (ie, more range).
Can't say I ever looked for drones on that list, though.

Edited by: Monica Foulkes on 18/01/2007 11:31:40 At that skill level, theoretically, five Ogre II on a Dominix (if you have BS5) will produce 466DPS. Get the racial skill to lvl 5 and you will do 475DPS.
The only way to verify the damage output is to use two ships, one with a good tank and the drone boat. Engage the tanking ship for a minute and check it's log in combat log analyzer and you can calculate the received damage.
Edit: When I tested to shoot a Typhoon with a Dominix/OgreII combo I produced about 433DPS out of the theoretical 466DPS. Just remember to include the resists on the tanking ship when testing this.

You cannot look at the true stats of your drones in game. This has been petitioned and complained about for ages, the devs have promised to fix it several times and never did.
The only way to check the effects of the modules, rigs etc. is to look at the behaviour of the drones, e.g.:
- put drones on overview and look at their MWD speed / orbit speed - observe wrecking hits in combat logs, the damage should be 3 x the calculated damage per hit (take resistances into account)

Wow.. seems a lot of people automatically jump to the conclusion that, since I was unaware the drone skills were actually working (even though they dont cause any changes to the info on drones), I must have 'bought' my account.
Since some people still brought that up, even after I said that was an incorrect assumption, I'll just chalk the remaining accusers up as 'cant read'.
No, I never did check 'along the way' so that I would notice the skills not improving the info screen readouts. One, because I didn't think a couple percent here and there was worth drooling over. I was waiting till I was 'done' so that I could see a huge difference (suprise suprise). Two, because I've got a second account that was more interesting to fly with - not a 'science geek'. So when I did get a chance to sign on, it was with that account.
I'm glad some folks have had a laugh out of this thread.. no doubt my frustrations were unwarranted.. but hey.. I was ticked off. I dont live in the game, nor do I live in the forums, so I had no clue what was going on.
I'm happy to read that it's just a display glitch (of sorts). Guess I'll run both accts at once and see what kind of damage is being done.
You'll have to give me a Mulligan on this one :) See ya in space :)

Yep, anxiety level overload admitted :)
I'm kind of wondering if the devs have something against drones in general. I understood when they made the modifications way back, when the total number of drones in space, per ship, was reduced, as well as drone bay volume. It was to combat potential lag caused by so many additional items on a grid.
We dealt with that well enough I think. The increases to drone stats pretty much balanced out the 'ten drones in space' aspect of it all.
I can even kind of give a 'pass' on the fact that skill bonuses are not showing up on info screens.
But when it streches past that, and into the ship mods/rigs themselves, it makes me think drones are considered the 'next thing to go' by the devs (which would be a shame for those who have so much invested in them)
My armor pump rig worked correctly, and it's effects showed up when checking the stats of the AR mod. I've seen that most other rigs are showing up as expected too. But I saw a thread about the sentry damage rig not working.. which was rig number '3' that was going to be put on my domi. Now I'm not so sure I want to try it yet.
Sadly, I already put the drone scope rig on the ship - and it is potentially among the 'doesnt work' pile of drone stuff as well. I cant take it off and replace it with something else.. Guess I have to wait and see if it ever gets fixed (if it really is non-functional in the first place).
From the looks of all the other patch-related bugs (evemail being the most common pain to us all right now), I get a feeling drone problems are far far away from any dev-attention.
Oh.. and why dont my mines work? (j/k)
