I was mining around 0.4 sec level area. I was using a Caracal that my friend gave me because im just a starter in the game. Trying to wander around and check out stuff. I came under fire by couple of Guristas. Then came Count Loki, Trying to check him "Look at" checking because i was amazed that he deployed drones. Then, he started hitting me, scrambled me. At first i reset camera and try to warp out. But it didnt help until i lost my Caracal.
No money to buy another ship.
I mailed him why did he hit me. He said it was a mistaken identity. He thought i was GroundZero the one who wrecked his friend. And all he can say is "Sorry, My bad"
-bad experience, hope no other new player experience this

Next time get your friend to go mine with you : ) Anyone can attack you in a belt in a 0.4 - 0.0 system without any interference from Concord, and they're generally fast workers - stay in 0.5 and above until you're ready to fight back or you've figured out how to get away, or you've got enough cash to lose Caracals ; )

Mistaken identity is actually a good reason to get blasted. Usually it'll be something silly like "I felt like it." A lot of people hang around lowsec just to gank people. If you're not ready to fight, then run as soon as you see someone. Keep an eye on the local channel for anyone you recognize as "not nice."
Insurance will help you replace your ships. It's always worth it to get insurance for Tech 1 ships. The way to think of it is that you can't afford to fly a ship unless you can afford to insure it too. Losing ships is common. You'll lose them to gankers like that one, you'll lose them to belt rats or mission rats, you'll lose them to bugs. Ships are like clothes. Just get another one or switch to an older one until you can replace what you lost. ---------- The right to do something doesn't make doing it right. |

Not diminishing the loss in the slightest but why is this under known issues and workarounds? Shouldn't it be under general?
