Hey all Im a new player to eve and i have a question (im not sure if this should go in the new players section or skills section but i put it here). If i plan on using caldari ships, would it be worthwhile to invest in both missiles AND gunnery skills? From my limited knowledge, i see caldari as a missile race, but i understand that some of their ships are geared towards using guns (merlin/moa/ferox). However, i was wondering if some of caldari's end game ships (bs/carriers/dreadnoughts) would utilize guns effectively? Like i said, im a new player and im not sure whether there are builds that utilize guns on those, but in the long run, would i be better off to just invest in missiles? (assuming i dont plan on playing other race's ships) Thanks for your opinions and advice

caladari pretty much have two lines
Kestrel->caracal->Cerberus->drake->raven->Phoenix Thats all missle vessels where u need missle skill to be ok.
Merlin->Moa->Eagle->Ferox->rokh Thats all gunnery thing.
Personal i have more sp in missles then in gunnery but thats more because my char is that old that caldari had no decent real boats except the ealge, with the rokh comming its some hwo different but from what i heard, havent flown it myself, yet that is not too much of a beast.
Mainly it depens on your playing style, when ur firstly pve focused i would stick to the missle line at first, with the raven as a target, when ur mostly done with that, u can if u want switch to gunnery skills, but i guess then we have somethign new to skill for.
When i would start now, i would focus on the missle skill just to have myself a solid isk base, with the missle boats u can eailsy npc/mission run and so have a solid base for ur future adventures.

i train missiles initially, Get a solid PVE set up which will help fund other stuff, then hit gunnery

I'd say train for both but you might be bether of going for the missile boats first as they are bether allrounders. The odds are that you will be doing some missions in the beginning to gain some weight on your wallet and this is where the missiles boats truely are best. A few million skillpoints later when you can fly Caldari BSs with decent skills you should be looking into training for large rails and fly the Rokh. The Rokh is bether for pvp and fleet combat.

Both are usefull ... on some of the Caldari "railships" you'll want a couple of missile launcher to kill the things that your guns won't track (Moa).
Oh, and don't forget your drone skills, Caldari ships have really small drone bays (if they have one at all), but those little buggers are a must ... on a Battleship for example, they are your "vs small things" weapon, used when your Cruises/Torpedoes do ridiculously small amounts of damage, or when you 350/425mms railguns can't track the target ...

I suggest you go with gunnery. Unless you plan to PVE most of the time. Gunnery is much more versatile and Rokh is a bloody killer with guns.
Train up to Heavy Assult Missile Spec. to l4 and go for Cerberus as far as NPCing goes. Otherwise guns are the best thing at this time.

As someone who went down the missile path with my eyes on the Raven, it all depends on what do you see yourself doing. If staying out of PvP for a year seems like something that works for you, then do missiles ONLY, never more than minimum skill and get into a Raven ASAP, it is almost indisputable the best level IV mission runner.
If you think you'll want PvP sooner, or even very soon, then rails is the way to go. From all I have read on these forums, the rails are a LOT more wanted for fleet battle but keep in kind there is a lot more skills needed to be as good with rails as with missiles.
At roughly 12M skillp, my ship push out 560 DPS with cruise missiles, i'd venture to get the same output with a Rokh I'd need 20M skills or more.

From what i have seen and my experience tech 1 missiles are better then tech 1 rails/blasters but tech two rails/blasters are so much better then tech 2 missiles, depends what you are going to do thoe. pvp at low sp i would say missiles but at a higher sp guns. pve missiles.
