Does any1 else think that maybe the concept of Corps within this `game' could actually be causing more harm than good? I think it looked good on paper but the reality of it has just spawned thuggish gangs of scum running protection rackets over vast swathes of space that theyve claimed as their own.

Quite simple really DraizeTraiN,
This game is an MMORPG. The second M stands for Multiplayer. Now before I was in a corp, I was really playing the game single player. Yes, there were other people IN the EVE world, but I wasn't interacting with them on any level at all.
I then joined a corp, Reikoku for those who don't know, and together myself (a scotsman) and Galavet (an American whom I had never met before) took Reikoku to the place it is now. I have ALOT of friends within the corp and through our corp have met soooo many more friends that I don't think I could name them all here without missing someone of the list.
So to return to your question, "do the concept of corps within this 'game' cause more harm than good?", I say no. Otherwise we would just be a collection of people playing the same single player game.
Eve isn't about space or fighting or money-making.
Eve is about the community.

It depends your point of view.
You have those ppl who enjoy mining alone in 1.0 space safe in the knowledge that the most scary thing that could ever happen to them is that they get stuck to a giant scordite roid.
Alternatively you have those of us who get a sick sadistic thrill at the thought of coming into contact with those so called 'scum filled corps' and actually engaging them in combat.
Either way, love them or hate them, corps are very much part of the game.
I suppose I'm trying to say that you have the option to stay solo, join a corp, stay in safe space or go out looking for a fight.
All in all it's what makes EVE the game we love (and hate!) to play.
Station camping, ship jamming, forum spamming, milk drinking, deep thinking, gooner loving, goat hugging, pirate killer............AVE IT LARGE!!!! |

Well it looks pretty simple to follow to me. If u cant say anything constructive then why cant u just leave it alone? Why stick ur oar in? U just looking for a row? WWF Wrestling not filling ur entertainment needs this week or summit? Ur probably a big fat 'airy bloke masquerading as a bird anyway so just `do 1' eh

My point is about balance. Is it fair to say that theres more `bad' corps than `good' corps? A lot more from what i can tell altho my knowledge of the game is limited i admit.

Re-read your first post. You sound like a lunatic. Really.
Only now do you actually get to the point you want to make.
Oh, and good and bad corps are a matter of perception. What criteria are you using to measure good and bad? What is good and bad?
What alternatives to corps are you proposing?
Maybe you should have made yourself clearer in your original post, non?
Take care, and have a nice Eve life.

Ah, i misinterpreted what you were hinting at.
However, I feel that you are actually incorrect about the balance. I would say that there are actually a lot fewer "bad" corps than "good" corps.
For a start there are like 5 alliances in the game made up of primarily "good" corps. There is only two alliances of "bad" corps. Thats a significant difference in both personnel and actual corps.
Also you will see that most bad corps have fewer members and remain tighter in control than good corps. Biomass (bad corp) recently attempted mass expansion with their corp and it ended in mistrust and they have had to trim back down to ~50.
So all in all, I feel that there are more "good" corps and more "good" players.

Miso: Im not interested in anything that comes out of ur scrawny gob so F*** OFF. I dearly hope u finally get the message this time.
Peacher: When u mention the `good' corps are u including the 1s that `claim' to be anti-pirate yet still charge protection/mining rates in `their' space? Cos in my book thats a form of racketering and therefor i'd put them in the `bad' catagory.

It's also spawned some very good gangs of anti-thugs like the Curse Coalition that are trying to rid the universe of scum like the Curse Alliance and open space back up so more people can have access.

I think you will find its all a mater of perception to who is good and bad. I have ties with both good and bad corp, even though ours is good. The bad ones I know cause me no problems because we are friendly but there may be corps that are good and support bad ones that will attack us so we see them as bad.
I think the balance is about right because too many bad corps and Eve would fall into complete chaos but as it stands there is enough law abiding players to keep a fare amount of peace.
P.S. Leave the agression in the game, it doesn't help your arguement at all and just helps you lose any credability.

Nope i don't think people who claim parts of space as their own are bad. That would just be silly.

It should also be pointed out that, with good management, corps can get stuff done far more efficiently than a gang of freelancers.
I have no doubt that if no official structure existed for making corps, people would form them anyway.

Well, neither.
More in the line of 'essential' to the game Eve set out to be.
Like this post being 'essentially'useless. _______________________________________________
